Hostel Aphrodite I Athens

Well we've been to Athens and returned within a day. We took the overnight bus from the Pink Palace and arrived by 7 am the next day. After throwing our bags in a barren room at Hostel Aphrodite, we walked the streets. Smelly, dirty, garbage-ridden, streets to the elusive Acropolis. Arrived in Greece around 4pm, because it was after 4, a lot of the sites were closed, so I walked around the hostel area and took in my new surroundings for the next few days. Got back to the hostel and lucked out because they didn't have a bed to offer me in the dorms, so I was given a double room to myself. The sites were free! Woke up and met the other 2 Canadians, Jill and M.C. and bought a 24 hour metro card and quickly made our way to Syntagamma where we caught the Changing of the Guard parade, it wasn't quite the full formal one, but it was still interesting and cool to see at the same time. Woke up late and met up with M.C. to finalize plans for the rest of the trip. Will have to get up super early tomorrow and head to Delphi, spend some tme there before heading to Kampalabaka, Meteora. From there take a train back to Athens where hopefully we can take an overnight ferry to Santorini.

Travel Tips:
Airport to Hostel Aphrodite- we took a bus from the airport to Syntagma Square which took a little over an hour. The bus number was X95 and you can get it right outside the airport. I think this bus comes once every 20 minutes. Cost for bus was 3.2 Euro. Then from Syntagma Square we took the metro to Larissa Station. The metro was 1.00 Euro. We arrived in Athens yesterday afternoon. To be truthful, nobody had told us that they loved Athens, and few even liked it, but because we are both very interested in the history of the city, we thought it would be enjoyable no matter what. Yesterday we flew from Rome to Athens on a decent flight. After a long trek from the airport to the hostel, we attempted to climb Likavitos Hill. After being told a couple of times it would only take 15-30 minutes, we realized that it would definitely take more than that! So, halfway up, we decided to go back down. Here it is... our last blog entry- a bitter-sweet thing really. AS sad as we are to leave Europe and our travels behind, we are excited for our OWN beds, a shower with WATER pressure, SPICY food, and of course all of you: our friends and family.
