I had a day in Rome, Italy (birthplace of the first roads and the first bad drivers on those roads) and I thought it'd be a good idea to rent a scooter and ride in Rome traffic all day… I was hit by one car (very lightly) and I did dump the scooter in a slick, greasy tunnel when I got cut off, but I LIVED!! I got to experience firsthand the thrill of driving in Rome…just the same way the Italians do. I’m talking I was cutting through traffic, riding on the sidewalk, jumping ...
Rome, Lazio, Italy big_red_truckSo I started my first day in Rome by fighting the French school group for breakfast. After the violence, I decided to calm my soul through some religious reflection. By consulting the Enjoy Rome tourist office, I found out that a tour group was departing for the Vatican Museums pronto. Leaping on the Metro, I met the mostly middle aged American tourists who would comprise the bulk of my group. I decided to pay extra for the tour due to the privilege of jumping the queue and in the hopes of le...
Roma, Italy jayne2008What a day of contrasts. I started by popping energetically out of bed at 6:30 AM and being out of the house by 7:45. Which was kind of an unfortunate waste of energy, because I had absolutely nowheres to go. I bummed around the Spanish Steps until AmEx opened and changed some traveler's cheques. Flush with euro, I walked to the Galleria Borghese, which was in the prettiest park I have seen in a long time, with chirping birds and impossibly green trees and equestrian statues that came out of ...
Roma, Italy jayne2008I am now doing my laundry in the rush to meet the girls for the enoteche tonight. Crystal, I went to the Il Gelatone today and treated myself to a San Valentino gelato. This morning I spent a little longer over breakfast than I usually do, eyeing the book trade selection available in advance of my trip to the UK. Departure lounges are boring places and I ran out of fresh reading material days ago. I then walked down to the Colosseum, stopping to admire Santa Maria Maggiore on my way. I got an...
Roma, Italy jayne2008great choice..i took the Eurostar from Florence to Rome..and not only did I save an hour, the ride was smooth and relatively ontime. (transportation in Italy does not run on time. My train this time was only 15 min late.....) anyway, the Roma Termini (Main station is huge)..think of the HK station MTR in Hong Kong. Many shops, restaurants, attractions here.... and also many pickpockets I have been told. My hostel (Alessandro Downtown Hostel) was 5 min away but hard to find..cause of the small...

So back in France this scene is set. Tom and I make our way back to our room after brekky and a bit of a wander. We walk in to our room, new faces everywhere! So I got to chattin. Everyone was from one of the North Americas, well, 4 canadians and one American. We all soon became good friends and decided to head out to the Red Light Di...
So maybe i might have been a tad hasty on writing of Rome as a shithole... only part of it is.
Today Tom and I set out on a journey of Rome. First stop, the Colloseum. After strolling down there after navigating our way through the streets, we spotted the mighty structure and headed towards it, expecting a line of epic proportions. We fought our way through the hoards of mostly americans, trying to sell us tours, to get us into the Colloseum without waiting in line for only 20€,...
So I had a night flight from Budapest to Rome. Looking back at it I really should have taken the train from Budapest to Venice and then Venice to Rome. I unfortually didn't think about that hard and ended up on this flight. I had traveled with a wide range of budget airlines in Europe but so far but I had never been on a Wizz flight yet. I was in for a treat. The flight was due to take off at 8:10pm and arrive into Rome at about 9:45pm. The budapest Airport is something to be desired. They ha...
Rome, Lazio, Italy mike81Well I'm back in Italy, this time the great city of Rome. It was a 24-hour journey from Corfu to Rome, by overnight ferry (where I slept on the floor), four trains (one of which stopped in Naples) and then finally to Rome. We found a cool hotel to stay at though (once again by following people we met on the train, this time it was two elementary school teachers from Anapolis), I got a fill-sized bed to sleep on too. Rome is great. Probably my favorite city in Italy. Florence was cool for awhi...
Rome, Italy orangenemoBack in Rome again, which is sad because it means the trip is reaching its conclusion. Today was devoted solely to the Vatican, which is must to see in one's lifetime, but I'm a pretty proud Protestant so I don't think I enjoyed it as much as all the other people. And wow, were there a lot of people. No poem today, just some pretty pictures of Catholic excess. Ciao.
