When he died, his rooms were preserved in their entirety right up until WW2 when the palace was destroyed (but the furniture and items were largely saved, having been evacuated). I found the route to be a lot more pleasant than the direction we had walked the day before, there were some nice buildings along the canal.     This place is great. It is clean and fairly quiet. The staff are very helpful and the place is fairly central. It is MUCH better than Godzillas in Moscow
