... he was probably enjoying some of the substances Amsterdam has to offer. Amsterdam is built on a riverbed so all the houses are sinking and tilting and in any other country would be condemned. It is quite obvious as the many of the windows are no longer rectangular. First off was Marken - a cute village where we watched a clog maker at work - the Dutch still wear clogs as they are so water proof - and the country side is so flat and watery probably a good idea.tho prefer a pair of Welles myself. We then caught a ferry across a huge lake to Volendam ( which used to be ocean connected until the opening was ...

... the atrocities of Nazi occupation.

Leaving the site of the warehouse, we wandered south along the walls of the Singel canal to the floating flower markets and started to feel raindrops, and then quite a few more. Having forgotten my umbrella, our next best option to escape the deluge was to stop in at a local bar and enjoy a Heineken, or two.
