... a duo comprised of a Django guitarist and a juggler on a unicycle. After lunch by the river, we did a quick tour of St, Lizer --- where every single shop and site was closed. We then had a hunt for our current lodging -- L'Ancienne Bergerie, which is very remote and very fabulous! The city went crazy with cars beeping their horns like crazy and bike bells ringing too ...

... Harlaam's old-time windmill and took a wonderful tour that taught us everything we ever wanted to know about windmills. Two things I didn't know - they can turn the windmill to face into the wind, and they add sailcloth to the propellers (wings, as they call them) to catch more wind. Otherwise, the wings are just latticed wood with fins that catch the wind. We got to go up inside the windmill and onto the deck beside the wings. Pretty neat. The day had started ...

... Turkish, Egyptian and Dutch restaurants. Once again we soaked up the history and made good use of the hop on hop off bus and canal cruise, visiting the Gassaam Diamond factory and no we didn't come out poorer! We visited the Jewish museum,Portuguese synagogue and the Jewish memorial. All very humbling especially when we went to the Westerbork transportation centre a few days later with our friends from Schoonbeek. Once up in the north with ...
