Palma de Mallorca

We woke up this morning to find ourselves just coming into Palma de Mallorca. Mallorca is the largest of the four Ballearic Islands – part of Spain and Palma is the capital. Very pretty little city and extremely well organized cruise ship dock – with ramps like at an Airport that you use to get yourselves into a covered walkway that takes you to the exit where you can pick up taxis or a bus into the town – ...

The start of Sharkita's big adventure!!

And at long last we are on our way ... can't quite believe we are actually starting this journey after all the work, planning, talking .... And we know we've been to San Telmo many times before but this time it is different!! And so good to have Simon's old friends Max & Linsey onboard - after all they were really the people responsible for him ending up in Port d'Andratx to begin with.

Dancing in Palma

... until Liam, a deckhand, poked up his head. He said he was sitting there the whole time, but I suspect he had fallen asleep since I had called out a few times when I first arrived.

After he lowered the passarelle and I was able to board, I jumped in the shower to wash off all the smoke and sweat of the night and was soon in bad.

The next day I went with a few of the girls to explore more of the town and to browse some of the shops. They ...

Another idylic Hollywood set

We arrived in Cala de Calobra around 5:30. We anchored in the small bay and took a tender to shore. The little village has a small pier along one side of a steep hill and the village is crowded on the hillside raising between two much larger and steeper hills. The whole thing looks like some Hollywood set because of its idyllic setting on the small bay. There are several bars and restaurants where we got drinks and ate an early dinner.

The #2 rated best bare beach in the world.

... us off and then returned to the yacht go continue on their way. Usually the crew will setup an area on the beach with a canopy, beverages, and a few lounge chairs, but since none of that would fit on the heli, it was just us a change of close, beach towels a few drinks and sunscreen.

We weren’t nearly as hyper on the beach today as we were in Formentera. Today, everyone just strolled around the ...

More Beaches!

... speak no English. We have a great dinner and some nice (and inexpensive) wine. The owners are from Argentina so I discuss my trip to South America with them.

We head out to the main bar/club street. My back is killing me. Every step is painful but I try to put it out of my mind. The area along the harbor has a good café crowd but the bars are empty. We finally go into one at 12. Within 30 minutes there is a good crowd. Almost all ...

Beachs and Sun!

... SpanAir, an airline that I have no familiarity. I was able to get a $100 fair from Scandinavia to Spain during peak vacation season. The flight is fine but they charge for everything, sodas and even water. While on the flight, my PC crashed. On the reboot it asked for bootable media. Yikes! A little panic but on the next reboot, it started up fine. I am backing up photos every few days but my PC has been key for my communication, my blog, photos, info collecting … Later in ...

Hiking Mallorca - Serra de Tramuntana

... boats offer tours of Palma Bay. Keep going, and eventually you reach Club de Mar with its luxury yachts. Just beyond here is the commercial ferry port, where boats leave for Barcelona, Valencia, Menorca and Ibiza. We walked on further beyond this point, but there wasn't much else of interest to see. We then turned around and walked back - total time about 5 hours. To Soller Train from ...

The Stories People Tell...

... it is, so that I can run off the other way! I had already been to Palma, so I didn't have anything specific I wanted to see. The four of us went to the centre, where we dropped off Carmella at an internet café, and then Cortney, Aaron and I continued on to the cathedral. We did our very best in acting like tourists; took loads of pictures of the cathedral from every possible angle, before we started paying attention to our growling tummies, and then sped off towards the ship ...

my first holiday =)

i visit spain so often but I had my first trip there at the tender age of about 8 months! haha!

needless to say I can't remember that particular trip but the subsequent ones really hit the spot with me!

I love Majorca because it has something for everybody. Mad nightlife, beautiful beaches and scenery, lovely people and not as "high rise" as main land Spain.
