... friends like Brontosauros and T-Rex, he became extinct many years ago but his legend lives on with many folkloric tales about cave men killing him for fur etc etc. He has a statue in the town centre and also a cave dedicated to him which we visited on the above said tour. He's cute in brass although I wouldnt like to come face to face with him in real life.

The Torres del Paine are quite ...

Torres Del Pain(e) - Fire, mud, sweat and blood

... we were in a lot of pain and 2 hours over schedule. We had to decide to camp in the wilderness or try to push on and find the campsite where we could regroup in shelter. Like Utopia, the camp finally appeared, glistening like a scene out of the smurfs. We ran greedily toward the cute little huts which were siituated in a wind tunnel to set up our wet tent. As we were setting up, racing against the remaining daylight a few more fellow trekkers came out of the ...

Torres del Paine National Park

... Oakland, CA who are backpacking and doing walks together and writing books about their experiences and making money. I hiked with a young german couple on a multiple month holiday and I also hiked with four 20 something year old guys during the day. I'm very glad to have spent 8 days in the park and I'm looking forward to more hiking and exploring in the Bay Area when I return.

Puerto Natales: L'anti-chambre de Torres del Paine

... suivant!

Patagonia (Argentina/Chile)

... Brazil for Carnival - that´s a long way from here) and drive out to the Peninsula. Luck is out though with the weather again. Rain last night was heavy and that has made part of the Peninsula undriveable - obviously the part where the Orca´s are. Complete Bummer - Still though it´s a beautiful place with loads of Seals, Sealions, Fur Seals, Pinguins (first sight of the in the wild albeit through a telescope) and every sort of sea bird. Beautiful place and the ...

More trekking this time Torres del Paine

... up gear for his friend. He told us what was what and what he had climbed recently it was really cool to get this information and has me now thinking of trips in the future. Who´s up for climbing in Patagonia? Our hike took us right behind the south tower of the Torres. It was amazing to see the scraped and shattered rock from all the recent glaciers. It was great to be that close to the mountains and cliffs. We headed back down for a second night a Italiano ...

Torture and Pain

... 30 everyone was up and about and it was then that we realized everyone was at the base camp except for Mick. We grew a bit more concerned, but we put on some water hoping he would be back any minute for his soup. It was only when we ran into another friend who just returned from the summit and had left 2 hours after Mick and had not seen him that we sounded the alarm. It was around 10am at this point, 4 hours after he left for what should have been a 2 hour hike ...

... mountains that were around us were becoming difficult to see because of the clouds, and there was no wind at all, hence little chance of the weather passing. After an hour we encountered some people heading down the mountain. They said the bridge that we needed to cross to get to the campsite had been washed out and there was no timetable for when it would be back up again. They were turning around. We decided to keep going and get to the Refugio (little ...

Bad enough very early in the morning, without all the backpacks etc...

The bus looked fine and the journey south took us about 6 hours I think, most of which was spectacularly unspectacular landscape.

There were a few more mountains visible when we pulled into our new town and were asked to leave the bus outside that bus company's offices.

As usual, this meant frantically looking through the guidebook maps ...
