Last stop before home

Vigo was our last port of call on our cruise and I had given this place little thought and done no research, so it came as quite a pleasant surprise. Its a big place and quite spectacular when viewed from the height of the ship.. We didn't get chance to look around other than from the coach that took us on our tour. As we left Vigo heading north...

voy a vigo

Today I´m headed for Vigo on the Northwest coast. Madrid has been good although tiring. It rained yesterday so I spent the afternoon at the Prado Museum. After that I walked forever, took a few pictures and ate some ice cream. If you´re ever in Madrid I recomend the Museo del Jamon, ham and cheese sandwich + beer = 2euros.

Oysters & Tapas in Vigo

We arrived in the Marina Davila Sport near Vigo early in the Morning from A Coruña. There are many Oyster and Mussel beds in the region and it is well known for its cuisine.

The marina is just about as unattractive as a marina could possibly be. It is located at the very tip of the commercial port with no trees or grass to be found. The...

Vigo

Today our port of call was Vigo, Spain. It is in the Galicia region (northwest) and it is quite beautiful. It rains there a lot, but we had a beautiful sunny day. We had hired a guide to show us the area. The highlight of the day for me was going to a castle. It was amazing… both the building and the view. We also had lunch at a ...

Run to the sun

I think we have finally found what we came for, today we are facing the Atlantic surrounded by a forested cove without a cloud in the sky. There are wild roaming horses, cycle and walking paths that link up secluded beaches and a place to free camp including a fresh water source from the hills. You couldn't really ask for much more its perfect f...

Last day here

On this last day it decided to rain, since Galicia is the wettest province in Spain I am glad the rain stayed away for most of the trip.  We spent the day visiting family and doing last minute errands (like mailing postcards).  We also had the best meal of the trip Jo's famous chicken and little potatoes.

Trip South

Today we headed south.  When planning this trip I got Cadogan's guide to Northern Spain and it had 5 areas in it that shouldn't be missed in Galicia.  One of them was Tui (pronounced 2-ie) this town is on the river Mino which is the border between Spain and Portugal.  The bridge that connects the 2 countries was designed by Gustave Eiffel.  Vale...

Home

We stayed in the home area today.  We went to the museum in the church Santa Maria a Nova (the new Saint Maria church, it's only from 1327).  The museum houses several older gravemarkers showing the different types of markings found.  We also walked the new boardwalk area and saw the rides that are getting ready to be set up for the Fiesta that ...

Noia y Muros

Today we stayed in the local area.  When we got up we went to Noia, down the road.  This is the town where Jo & Pepe lived when they were first married.  Today was the Curro, a street market/ flea market.  I had fabulous hot chocolate with vanilla ice cream as my breakfast drink.  We wandered around and picked up our empanada for lunch.  Emp...
