Calle 63 #508 Planta Alta, Col Merida, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, .
Merida is a small town with a more modern feel and more expensive than any of the other towns up until now. I was there for Saturday night, probably the most fun time to be there. About 10 blocks at the centre of the town are closed off to traffic. The streets are filled with bands, fairs and plenty of public revellery. What should have been a great night was a poor showing due to the first rain there in 2 months. What! Where did that come from? Had my gloating to Brian about the nice pending...
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico shanemMerida is a beautiful city with a lot of colonial buildings, they say it is the most "Mexican" city. We took a bus and went to the ruins in Uxmal. It was extremely hot. You could see iguanas everywhere.
Merida, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico svdputteHola everyone!! Sr. Olson, here. Sr. Wolfe was going to be on for the blog this time, but he is busy doing some other research. So, like it or not, it´s me again. We arrived early this morning in Merida. For those of you who recall, Merida is our first unplanned destination, where we need to make a short visit to the US consulate on the account of Wolfe losing his passport. It has been a hectic but rewarding couple of days of travel and sight-seeing, but we finally have a few days here to rel...

Cenotes are caves, underground swimming holes caused by meteorites hitting the earth.
The trip to the cenotes was almsot as cool as the cenotes themselves!
To get to there, we took an hour bus ride, then we got on a cart that was attached to a bicycle. We were pedalled about 30 minutes up and down hill. Then we hopped on this little rag tag cart that was pulled up ...
... be heard as well as fireworks and church bells. And as usual, the tantalizing smells from the taco stands were in the air. In Merida, there was lots to do so Chris and I started out by taking an hour long city tour on a colourful bus. We especially enjoyed seeing the beautiful mansions on the edge of the city. Of course, Walmart, KFC and Burger King were also in the area. Following this we visited a few ...
Merida, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico ladyandtramp... somehow!)
We walked around town a bit, it looks like a bigger version of Valladolid with its main square, fountain and cathedral. We went to "Trapiche" restaurant, where the host was so friendly and helpful and had the best mole and a huge pizza. We took a doggy bag! There was a festival "Corazon de Merida", with traditional music, food and handcraft stands, where all the locals gathered and socialised. Two Coronas (1.5 euro, eat your ...
Over the past week Elly and I have been attending 5 hours of Spanish lessons every day and I think we are finally getting the hang of it. Its great because we are able to get by in Spanish for things like the bus, restaurants, directions etc. The classes have got a bit easier and we have learnt so much in a week its incredible. In the afternoons we tend to have cultural classes where they encourage conversation in Spanish and we talk about Mexican and Mayan ...
Merida, Mexico n_bradley... at the whole prospect of all of it. 'Suck it up Princess' is what I hear. hahaa Anyway, so we got to the airport on Monday and had my bag searched I don't know how many times. The whole red light green light thing... I got a red, then they didn't ask anyone else to push the button after that. I guess they were afraid they'd have to work if someone else got red. So we checked our bags and hoped that we would not only get ...
Merida, Mexico incrediblelife... had a beautiful mural showing the compass points with a man coming out of corn (Mayan story of the creation of man) along with a jaguar, an animal representing the underworld and very much revered by the Mayans. I wandered around the market but soon got put off by the vendors who would harass you and if you ignored that grab you to look at their goods! Later Kelly & I went to the Museum ...
