... back down when it started lashing. Nice big thunderstorm. So basically very lost and wet in the mountains. Lots of andean villages with really nice locals who pointed us in the right direction. Made it back to the outskirts of town into the slums where humongous dogs were literally snapping at our heels. Looked a bit foamy at the mouth so we hailed a taxi back to the hostel.

We drive 2 hours up the pass with a flat tire. All dirt road, huge rocks, holes in the road. Get to a cut in the mountain at the top and the driver looks, not good. We have about 39 more hairpin turns to go, all on unsealed chunky road. He decides to switch the flat front tire and a good back tire. We ride on the rim as far as we can.
