Quiroga and Roca Otavalo, Ecuador, 593-6-2920990
From Quito we got a bus about 2.5 hours North to Otavalo which is a really nice town famous for its incredible Saturday market which takes up all the streets with sections for fruit and livestock as well as hundreds of stalls selling all kinds of brightly coloured things that we wish we had space in our bags for. We arrived on Friday at about lunch time and had a look around the market then as weŽd heard that though there is slightly less choice, stuff is slightly cheaper not on market day (w...
Otavalo, Ecuador pennyimoLike - all the traditional dress, the markets Dislike - i'm so cheap! but I thought it was going to be crazy cheap, and its not. Its resonable though, very resonable at the markets. Do Differently - maybe see some of the nature thats around Ortivallo Transport - major bus route, though Ortivallo is large, make sure you tell the bus driver you want off at the market area. They will drop you on the main highway (usually), then just take a cab, or it's about a 7 block walk into town but it might...
Otavalo, Riobamba, Banos, Ecuador sasullHello All, Keir and I have had an exhausting two days since my last entry! On Wednesday night we met with two Canadian guys who are living here over the Summer; one is learning Spanish and the other is a film professor who is writing a series of short stories... pretty damn cool. Sorry Sam but I think his film knowledge would put even yours to shame! We had a great evening but after a day of sight-seeing were shattered by 11. QuitoŽs New Town was incredibly westernised and resembled Broad Str...

Otavalo, Ecuador sophieoliveHaving left Quito we headed north(?!?) to a town called Otavalo. The arrival here marked our first night camping, and more importantly my 1st night as chef! Soon after the tents were pitched me and my cooking buddies (2 polish and 1 paddy) rustled up a michelen star sausages, mash and veggy combo....I took charge of the sausages - all 75 of them! Feedback was that it tasted more like a bridgestone than a michelin, but no need for immodium so all good.

Following ...
Otavalo, Ecuador skoylesr... 50) where we buy our freshly-baked bread and dulces (sweets). A couple of days ago I bought two wonderful breads shaped like croissants but baked with cheese, and paid .12 each for them. Cream horns filled with lemon curd and topped with chocolate are a bit more expensive - .25 each. There's every kind of bread imaginable just waiting to be taken home, and it's all amazingly inexpensive. We buy produce at the bus terminal, of course, but there are a bunch of tiny ...
Cotacachi Imbabura, Ecuador tropmem... I´ve traveled that road by bus, horse, moto/dirt bike, in the back of a large truck, small truck, milk truck, and on foot. And i would have to say that my favorite was in the milk truck - i had the back all to myself, along with about 8 big metal containers of cow milk being collected from various farmers along the way.

I arrived in Cuellaje to find that my timing was perfect: the whole parroquia was in fiestas, celebrating 45 years of officialy ...

Otavalo, Ecuador caroline_little... a bird rescue centre and got to see the impressive Andean Condor up close...that is one big bird!! The highlight of the weekend though has to be the impressive pies! Apparently Otavalo's famous for them...and we were not disappointed...we go all the way to Ecuador and end up spending our time writing home about pies!! ;-) On our final walk down the hill from La Hesperia to ...
