Don't be fooled by the drab outside, this hostel is amazing! The owner is English speaking (from New Zealand) and is full of stories and advice. Rooms are nice and the common area is clean. They also serve all you can eat breakfast.

Feliz Año Nuevo!

A travel blog entry by ailiemck

Well as my visa was coming to an end I realised I needed to do a little border hop to extend my stay in to January. I thought hmmm why not head to the beach and celebrate New Year? That is exactly what I did. Arica is not far from Arequipa but the road is long due to frequent searches by SUNAT(Peruvian security authorities). You also have to stop …

Santiago – Arica

Well after the cock up with the flights to Santiago (No one bothered to inform me that my connecting flight from Auckland to Santiago had been cancelled and rescheduled for the next day) I had finally arrived!! I had, had a 10 and a half hour flight in which I had left Auckland at 4:30pm and arrived in Santiago, …

Crossing into Chile

A travel blog entry by bharris4

It was only a four hour bus ride from Arequipa to Tacna (Peruvian border town). From there we hired a taxi to drive us to Arica, Chile. Apparently, this is the easiest and safest way to cross the border. And it turned out to be. Our driver did all the work for us at customs and made for an easy border crossing. For some reason, Chile is two hours …

Last Stop on the Chile Bus

The last stop in Chile was only 25km from the Peruvian border. Arica is a cute little beach town surrounded by sand dunes and provided us lots of sun and relaxation – quite the treat from a couple travelers leaving the Patagonian cold and headed for the altitudes of Peru. We stayed in a quaint, comfortable hostel owned by a Kiwi and his …
