Vile is all I can say... the poor creature looks like itīs been hit with a stun gun and thrown in a deep fat fryer... teeth, entrails and bollocks incuded in the price. Definitely enought to turn anyone veggie!
Arequipa, Arequipa, Peru dendenLast Saturday we left Lima and got the coach to Paracas. We got there around 6pm and thereīs nothing to do there so we went to a restaurant for dinner then went to the supermarket to buy booze then went back to the hostel and played card games and drinking games till gone midnight. Sunday morning a few of us did the Ballestos island tour. Theyīre islands where loads of seagulls and sealions live. I didnīt care too much for those. I only went to see the Candelabra. Itīs lines in the hillside a...
Arequipa, Peru leskovarGot into Arequipa after a scheduled 13.5 hr overnight bus ride from Lima on Cruz del Sur that ended up being 15 hrs long. What can you do? At least there was dinner and breakfast...Anyway, after dragging my giant blue suitcase around the terrapuerto (bus terminal) for a while looking for a woman named Shirley who I was supposed to meet in order to get my transfer to my hostel, I finally found her and she got me a taxi to my hostel. The reception lady was really nice, and even booked my bus ti...
Arequipa, Peru patrick_viajeroNow in Arequipa, the third largest city in Peru, in "canyon country". The city is surrounded by mountains and we have a great view of the snow-capped El Misti volcano from the roof of our hostal. Arequipa has a very colonial look to it and the main square has a beautiful cathedral along the whole length of one side. Several lovely vegetarian restaurants too! There are 2 main sights to visit - the Santa Catalina Monastery and the Sanctuary Museum (Juanita the Ice Princess). The Santa Catalina ...
Arequipa, Peru tomandfoy The night bus brought us to Arequipa early on Saturday morning. It was an interesting experience, the seats went right back but the mountain roads were very twisty and we were woken up by Michael Jackson videos and a mouldy ham roll at 5:30am!
Arequipa is called the White City as all the buildings are made out of a white volcanic rock. It is surrounded by mountains and three active volcanoes, which makes for an amazing setting. The weather was beautiful but we once again stumbled on so...

... It is a rarity from what I am told. There was just enough of a break in the clouds to make for an incredible sunset though. The pinks that appeared as the sun faded away gave the mountains in the distance a whitish hue, kind of like the stone of which many of the buildings here are made. Sorry, no pictures, I was on the bus, and I have been told to keep all of my belongings close by my side in the bus. You just have to use your imagination.
Arequipa, Peru forbes.thompson... or blue. It is labyrinthine to wander, so the map and walking tour provided is appreciated. I start in the "parlours" where the nuns could sit behind lazy susans adn pass goods to the outside world or receive goods without being seen. Near here are the novice's cells, clustered around a beautiful courtyard. I had always considered a cell to be a small, bare room with a bed and maybe a table. These rooms, however, are huge (gotta have space for those servants) with many ...
Arequipa, Peru kally563... got quite cold. We decided to go downstairs and stay warm but a door stood in our way. Normally on the buses here, the doors for the toilets etc, take a good push or pull to open or close. In fact much so, that you may try to open the door and be convinced that its locked only to wait ten minutes and try again and realise that in fact it was vacant the whole time. This wasn’t such an occasion as I only realised that this door, separating the top and bottom sections of the bus ...
Arequipa, Peru willandmirHi All,

Once again I send my best wishes to everyone and hope that life is treating you well wherever you are!

The last few days since I wrote in Nasca have been some of the best yet! On the afternoon of my last entry we headed to a small airport on the outskirts of Nasca to see the lines themselves. We were told that we would be flying in a small plane, but by ´small´ I did not expect what was to come. It was as if we were travelling in an extended mini, just hundreds of ...
Arequipa, Peru scottwoodley... of other travellers getting stuff nicked out of their packs, although most of them were from unlocked bags on cheaper buses. Security must have improved since the guidebooks were written, as with the better companies you get proper luggage storage tags, they video every person getting on the bus, they don´t stop to pick up other passengers, and many buses had tracking GPS. We´d even heard of one company that fingerprinted everyone getting ...
