Jungles and monkeys

... just worked with the monkeys for 2 weeks which was amazing. Over 2 weeks, you start building a bond with them and get to know and tell apart all of the 30 monkeys they have.

There are 5 different types of monkeys they have
Spider monkeys are the big black ones that are very placid. They dont play with you much, but they like to be carried while you are walking, or if you are sitting down, they will come over to you and collapse on you to sleep.

Life At La Senda Verde

... in La Paz, where the dried leaves are distributed out for use in teas, candies or just to simply be chewed. The other half of the family's crop is sold to the cocaine producers, who coincidentally, have their market on the second floor directly above the legal coca market. The fact that I, a gringo, know this and it hasn´t been shut down tells you a bit about the level of corruption here. These coca leaves are then brought to warehouses in La Paz where they are converted to ...

What The Heck I am Doing Here

... birds, boa constrictors, rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles, tortoises, rescued cats and dogs, a small wildcat called a margay, and perhaps most impressive, a highly endangered spectacled bear.

All of these animals were rescued from the illegal pet trade in Bolivia. Some animals were used in circuses, others were pets and some simply were confiscated while they were waiting to be sold in the market. Most were orphaned, as the easiest way to trap a wild animal is ...

We found our way, eventually, to Coroico, phew!

Unduavi – Coroico (72 kms)

We climbed out of la Paz choking with the fumes that were being belched from every vehicle that passed us. When the weather is overcast, as it was that day, the pollution seems to stay put, hanging around like a bad smell. The gradients ...

THE WORST HOTEL TO DATE!

We left La Paz this morning for what was planned as a relaxing time in the Amazon Jungle.  The description sounded inviting - a family cabin in a delightful five star resort nestled into the lush green mountain.  Poetic licence at its best.

We arrived after a three hour drive from La Paz (thankfully no longer along the world's most dangerous road) to a miserable greeting at reception.  We were then walked along a ...

Don't You Point Your Saltena At Me, Young Man!

Although the tranquil little mountain town of Sorata wasn't technically very far from Copacabana, getting there did involve some typical Bolivian complications. Starting with the fact that the road, the main road to La Paz I might add, actually cuts across a corner of Lake Titicaca. Now when I say "cuts across", I don’t mean in the traditional sense, which would of course mean on a bridge, but rather in a more rustic manner, which in this case took the form of a big, rickety wooden ...

Vertical Limit (by MAPG)

Everyday tons of adrenaline junkies go to calle Sagarnaga in La Paz, in order to put their lives in the hands of one of the (licensed) travel agencies that operate the 65 km road between La Paz and Yolosa, also called the Death Road. Agencies provide downhill bikes, a guide disguised as a photographer, and the transport to the starting point of the world most dangerous road. Ex-most dangerous that is, the section being replaced in 2006 by a new asphalted road, which ...

Biking down the world's most dangerous road

... and Faith variety – dad would run out of names for them!), its only 3m wide in some places and with 600m drops on one side – if you go over the edge you have no chance. There have been countless deaths from
buses and trucks going over the edge. Thankfully when we biked down it the only traffic was our tour bus following us down and the odd truck and two guys who were touring on motorbikes. You can make the ride as dangerous as you like ...
