Doing the Chan Chan

... They are still restoring the area and are undertaking conservation work at other sites around Chan Chan. You get to see people working on the walls carefully dabbing what looks like water on the stones no doubt to see whether the carved designs survived. Chan Chan's pyramids and palaces were put on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in Danger in 1986 because they are threatened by erosion. Apparently over the past 2 decades the site has deteriorated ...

Bribing the Police and Skipping El Brujo

... El Brujo site. But as we got about three miles away from the site, the road became so muddy and treacherous that we decided to head back into the nearest town. We found a great little restaurant there and Annette decided to take a taxi through the mud to the site. The El Brujo site contains relics and ceramics that portray one of the Moche rulers - a woman called the Seņora de ...

parting ways for the day

Jen spent the day in Lima. She met up with Esters and family for lunch and helped him plan some things out for his upcoming trip to Miami. We loaded him down with tons of food suggestions. You could almost hear our mouths salivating when we, over the phone, listed out mashed potatoes, sweet corn, gravy, and 18 oz medium rare stake - all things he had never had before.
Back in Trujillo Andy and I arrived from Cajamarca at 7AM. We left our stuff in the Linea bus ...

... with his whole family...). You can see a lot of teh old wall decoration and old structures there and also visit a couple of other temples built by the Chimu culture between 800 to 1400AD or so.

Today we saw the religious temple of another earlier civilization, the Moche, that somehow changed their god at some point and then turned into the Chimu (or so..). They ...

Huaca del Sol y Huaca del Luna

... just got our driver to take a few photos of us before hopping back inside and leaving for Huanchaco. Incidentally, on the main road back while bombing along at about 70mph, there was suddenly a loud bang and crash noise on the roof, and on Claireīs window which startled her quite a bit. We whipped round and looked out of the rear windscreen to see that our driverīs beloved "Tacksi" sign had fallen off the roof onto the opposite side ...

Ruins and not a whole lot else.

... tufts of hair on the head or tail. Unfortunately ugly creatures really. Well that and we ended the tour with a visit to the nearby seaside town of Huanchaco where cold beers and the possibility of cute surfer boys were to be found.
And by the end of the day i was so incredibly tired still that i was completley asleep by 7pm, therefore missing out on drinking with Jesus, by oh well, i guess i needed the sleep more...

Pyramid of the moon

When we got back to the hostel, Mr Americano aka Tom, whom Rosa and Vanessa had spoken so highly of that morning, was in the lounge chatting with Vanessa. He wasn't gobsmacking hot – as described by Vanessa earlier in the day. He seemed rather average-looking and not amazingly hot as Vanessa and her mom made out him to be. He saw himself as a real traveller that had been to a few countries, but most likely, from what he had ...

... an active volcano and jumping over hot lava. Michael Buble was playing in the kitchen’s TV where I could hear Rosa swooning in Spanish over the singer. She had mentioned several times that she thought he was beautiful to look at.

It was early evening when we went off to the supermarket. Someone had mentioned to Rosa that it was open as most people had done their part for the census. Unsurprisingly it was packed – we had to ...

... be open the following day. Pretty much nothing, the woman there explained. Not even the bus to the nearby beaches would be operating...unless we walked there. So it seemed the following day would be a write-off for travelling. So we thought we would make the most of what remained that day, seeing that it was already late afternoon by then.

Plaza Mayo, the city's central plaza, had palm trees and also a large Cathedral fronting it. I started to ...
