Avenida Chichas N0 220 Tupiza, Bolivia
The area surrounding Tupiza, in southern Bolivia, could come straight out of the American Southwest -- brightly colored rocky hillsides, jagged formations, and strange looking badlands in all directions. It's also where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, two robbers a la the Wild West, were reputedly killed after robbing a payroll. There's a movie about them starring Robert Redford, I think. Rolling in at around 4am, I quickly found my way to Hotel La Torre, which is quite excellent. $3 per ...
Tupiza, Bolivia arnykim And onto Tupiza! A town that is most famous for being the final haunt of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, we were killed 100 years ago in the nearby town of San Vicente. Those of you that have witnessed myself and Wheeler at fancy dress parties over the years will know that this would be a place close to my heart...
Having been lucky enough to get out of Uyuni so quickly, we had a celebratory dinner at what will be probably be the cheapest restaurant either of us will eat at in ou...
Country number five Surprised by the amount of Flamingos, hats, salt. Since bidding a fond farewell to Paraguay, we have been on a whirlwind cross continent trip through various small Argentinian towns on our way to and through Bolivia. Our first stop was in Resistencia, a place developed by artists and known as the City of Sculptures (over 400, in fact, grace the streets and public spaces.) Next was Salta, a fantastic city where we enjoyed architecture, views, our last feast of Argentinian m...
Uyuni, Bolivia bron_and_eliSo we have made it to the wild west - much to the delight of Anna, we are in Tupiza where Butch Cassidy rode off into the sunset in the old western movie (watch Žbutch cassidy and the sundance kidŽ! i will now need to when i get home.) Though the true story is that Butch was killed here in tupiza. stick with the movie i guess. The experience of crossing into Bolivia was rather surreal: we got off our bus at high altitude, very very cold, in the dark at bout 6.30am. We kinda guessed our way to...
Tupiza, Bolivia colleensouness19th to 21st April 2008 It was an early rise on Sat, 19th to catch the bus to La Quaica (Argentina border town) and then over to Villazon(Bolivia border town) to catch another bus to Tupiza. The border crossing went without a hitch, pretty good actually. Glad I wasnŽt going into Argentina as the queue for immigration was horrendous. Managed to find a money exchange place in Bolivia and then got a bus to Tupiza. There is a huge difference in buses from Argentina. The bus that we got broke down...
Tupiza, Bolivia duncanmSo keeping up with this blog is a full time job, one that seems to have been left to me despite it being Justin's idea!! We are now in Tupiza, after leaving Salta by bus to La Quica which is the border town of Argentina and bolivia. Bus left at 12.45pm which was good cause we thought weŽd be able to sleep most of the 6 hours.... Freezing cold bus trip - the driver had the air con cranking non stop, set at about 10 degrees I'm sure. Arrived to the border no worries. La Quica is simply a border...
Tupiza, Bolivia juddy79Tupiza Tupiza - home of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid hence the not so random title of this blog. Kla, Jo and I had another long bus journey from Buenos Aires to Villazon which is just over the Bolivian border. It was quite an amusing border crossing including entertainment from the local 8 year olds who jumped on the bus once we had our passports stamped. They sang a couple of songs with horrific voices and then came round the bus hoping for a penny or two. Once in Villazon, we were qui...
Tupiza, Bolivia lallieWe arrived into Tupiza by train. Train travel in Bolivia is really cheap and much more comfortable than the buses. We checked into La Torres Hotel, which was as good as the Hilton (not that weŽve ever stayed in the Hilton) and cost 7 euros a night. We had cable TV, private bathroom with 24 hour hot water, the comfiest bed and even a spare bed to put all our clothes on. Needless to say once we settled in we never wanted to leave. We stayed 6 nights even though there is nothing to do in Tupiza ...
Tupiza, Bolivia paulandlinAnd the journey from Argentina into Bolivia begins... and to be honest i was just a little apprehensive about the whole ordeal, there is something about border crossings that i dont really enjoy (i think its that underlying fear of getting someone in a bad mood who decides they dont want to let you into their country!), in addition to doing it on your own and not really knowing enough spanish yet! However, all fears and doubts were very unnecessary, and within the first five ...
