Linares # 947 La Paz, Bolivia
Good job Phill and I spent a good hour sourcing good-looking buses (ie, full complement of tyres, seats, no chickens or pigs etc) in the main square heading out of Copacabana to La Paz ... we turned up at the right time, ended up on a minibus squashed in with 12 others, our luggage balanced precariously on the roof (we had also spent a considerable amount of time insisting on a facility to lock the bags away), which turned out to be the shuttle bus to the grande bus which was parked up on a h...
La Paz, Bolivia dawnandphillDay 2 in La Paz - spent a large part of yesterday on a walking tour courtesy of Phill and the Lonely Planet, and took in a fair few sights - including some strange things from the witches market.... Today we took a tour out to Tiwanaku, a pre-inka site about 70km away. As usual we have walked our socks off and are seeking early retirement to our room this afternoon - tomorrow we are aiming for Sopocachi, an area of La Paz, then we are taking the overnight bus from La Paz to Uyuni, where we ar...

P's Report
After Machu Pichu we were to make our way leisurely down to Bolivia & La Paz via Lake Titicaca for a few days - unfortunately due to no fault of my own the place we stayed had no ATMs, and thus we had to make a much earlier departure with only around 5p spare to our name. It could have been much more embarrassing if we hadn't had a birthday gift of some dollars stashed away from my Brother and family for Gillian which paid our hostal bill. Instead...
... condors, and slept in a small "oasis" town called Sangalle. Also climbed the volcano "El Misti" (5822m) over 2 days, which was awesome despite the vomiting, freezing cold and smell of egg at the top.

Anyway that´s enough bragging for now, plus I´m not sure how much more death metal I can take in this cafe. We´re heading up to Rurrenabaque (Amazon basin) by plane at 6am tomorrow for an indefinite period of ...
La Paz, Bolivia robzilla... several accidents along the way mainly people going a little to fast into corners and loosing control, the first aid people needed lots of banages and plasters to covers the bleeding knees and elbows. Kate managed to cycle all 64km without falling off, however on the last kilometer I got a little over confident and took a corner to fast and wallop!!!! The bike went from under me and I hit the gravel road... OUCH!!!! Still the saying goes "If you didn´t fall off, you ...
La Paz, Bolivia kmtour09... and dogs.

Now, La Paz seems to me a bit displaced. I mean none of the streets is horizontal, there are too many hills and too many streets, and they are too narrow. The Plaza de Armas is wedged between some rather ugly buildings, it lacks the splendour which a Plaza de Armas should have, like it has in Cusco or in Lima. I leave La Paz quickly and catch a bus to the Valley of the Moon.

El Valle ...
La Paz, Bolivia translucent... tour operators and 2 cafe´s we finally managed to acquire a ticket on the tourist bus to Uyuni, for ease of use mainly, and because I don´t think either of us are ready for the chicken 13hr slog with no toilet just yet.. maybe on the return trip...

We spent most of yesterday wandering through dusty streets full of millions of stalls trying to track down the snack sellers that service the hungry bellies of the Andean masses. In a bid to discover how they all ...
La Paz, La Paz, Bolivia alberto66... t find a decent guide to go with that week. There was an expedition with some Spaniards the following week but rather than wait I ended up opting for plan B which was to tackle another mountain called Hyuana Potosi which is 6,088m high. Normally, the trips are 3 days but because I had already acclimatised, was used to using crampons and such like, we agreed I'd tackle it over two days instead of the usual three.

I had a warm, comfortable feeling knowing that my mountain guide ...

Made with 30 chillies, a small sample convinced me that you would need no taste buds to ingest this dish!

So Saturday morning we left La Paz - regrettably I still never made the road of death trip to Coroico, even though most of the (dangerous) traffic has been re-routed to a newer safer road. Onwards to Copacabana now with my new passport, and the beginning of our encounter with Inca archaeology...
La Paz, La Paz, Bolivia atullgupta... elevation. One side of the road is a sheer drop all the way to the bottom for the majority of the ride. It's about 5 hours of bumpiness that I chose not to expose my fragile ass to. I ran into Duncan and Amanda from the Uyuni tour here and they enjoyed it, but I just didn't feel like dropping the cash. Something like 13 riders have died over the past 12 years by riding over the edge. The stat really didn't concern me, but I won't be ...
