Had one of those moments yesterday, woke up, looked around the room and wondered where the bloody hell I was - Then the memory banks fired up the little bulb in me head and I remembered I was in Iquitos...
I managed to get here intact with all my luggage, which had spent the day at Lima airport - The tossers at Manchester told me it was booked all the way through to Iquitos.. Lima airport was on a high terrorist alert when my bag became the only one still going round and round the carousel...
Alright folks, After leaving my folks in Puno, I headed up to the Amazon basin to realize a dream trip down the river to the worldīs largest city not accessible by road, Iquitos. My flight from Juliaca got into Lima where I stayed another night in the airport and then jumped on a plane to Tarapoto. I ended up meandering around the city for a couple days and made friends with a couple locals who worked at the hotel. They were great hosts, taking me around the city, to parties, and nightclubs. ...
Iquitos, Peru kylekhanWeīre in the middle of the amazonian jungle at last! We have been staying in a town called Iquitos which is the largest city in the world with no roads out - itīs linked by waterways and air only. Consequently there are very few cars here, mostly small motorbikes and mototaxis making it very noisy. Itīs very hot and humid - occasionally the heat is broken by a 2-3 hour torrential downpour which really freshens up the air. The rain is normally accompanied by fierce thunder and lightning making...
Iquitos, Peru tomandfoyToday was a golfing day.I stepped out of my salubrious accomodation and was surrounded by a group of Moto-kar drivers, some of the thousands of Moto-kars that populate the street of Iquitos, after negotiating a price (15 soles) I set off through the town, through the suburbs and through the jungle until 30 minutes later I entered a golf course.... Unbelievable, cut out of the ...
Iquitos, Peru countyman... sleep on the boat anyway. Why not? We already paid for tickets, and that way we wouldn’t miss it if it left early. The boat cooks served a really good soup for supper. Some of the kitchen scraps got thrown overboard and out of nowhere about a thousand fish showed up, swarmed the food, and it all disappeared in seconds. We peered overboard, threw some ****** doughnuts that we bought to the fish, and unsuccessfully tried to get pictures of the fish swarm. <br ...
Iquitos, Peru bjergaard... and wondering two things... what were we getting ourselves into, and where was Bill?? <br>By 4 o´clock the boat had started to depart and Bill was still nowhere to be seen. Luckily about five minutes later one of the boat´s crew came up to me stating ¨Bill, ok, Bill, ok¨. Um ok? And about five minutes ater that Nikki then comes up to me... ¨so theres a speetboat following us, i think thats Bill....¨ Yep indeed it was. Definately gave us something to ...
Iquitos, Loreto, Peru bourlingueur... it or not, I saw this movie, thanks to Jim Smith, at the Redlands Mesa Grange, several years ago...what an epic! The movie is about a man who wants to bring opera to Iquitos during the rubber boom. Well, you can read more about the movie on Wikipedia and even see clips on YouTube...But during the filming, Werner Herzog and some of the stars of the film stayed at a house on the outskirts of Iquitos which ...
Iquitos, Peru margreet98... We didn`t really because we just could sleep the previous night. Since then I have actually felt quite good and had moments of real elation, I would reccomend everyone to try this once in there lives, it is perfectly legal and natural, but be prepared for either a good or bad experience. All in all we saw 7 differnet types of monkeys, millions of birds, an anaconda, caimens, frogs, bugs, insects and spiders all in the wild. Back the Iquitos we had a well deserved shower counted ...
Iquitos, Peru jon-daniella... eating right away. Children know how to find these natural incubators and open them up to get to the young parrots. These are then taken home as pets. Ricardo's assistant showed me one of those termites' nests and opened it up for me. No parrots inside, but in a moment, his hand and arm were covered in large, red termites. OMG! I thought; "How is he going to get all of those off his arm?" But he smiled and said; "They are great for ...
