Sneeze the student

Another morning found us on the hostel terrace, stuffing ourselves with more toast. I said in the last entry that free toast is grand. Why? Well, quite obviously, when one has stuffed oneself with free toast in the morning then there is less need for buying food later in the day. We took ourselves off to the Cathedral of Seville: the third largest in the world. The Wiley Sneeze was able to get the student discount. Now, I quite overdid cathedrals in Olde Blighty. It is difficult to fully appr...

Backtracking

As always things in Africa don't run on time, our train from Fez to Sidi Kacem (where we had to change for our connecting train to Tangier) was 5 minutes late even before departure. Our remaining time for our connection was 15 minutes, not to bad really, but then again this is Africa. When arriving at Sidi Kacem it was a further 10 minutes late. OK, 5 minutes we can do it, cant we. We found our train and what we thought was our platform, judging by the signs and the announcement in French. Bu...

Happy Birthday to me :)

Well, I am 25 now...And i dont feel old at all. We decided to take our Alfa Romeo car to Tarifa. Chris drove the journey while i decided to play passenger in hte backseat while watching brazilian jiu-jitsu movies and relaxing. Kev navigated in the front and we took our adventures to the southern most point in Spain.

Tarifa! I must say, it was definately good to make it here. Another beach town on my birthday...WOO! This town was quite quaint and it definately had the feel of a beach to...

So windy

What else can we say about Tarifa, other than amazing! If you kite and or windsurf, or just like being surrounded by cool shops and cool people, then this place is for you. Known as the windiest spot in Spain and Portugal, you're guaranteed to get some riding in, which we did. We stayed at a pretty nice hostel, nothing fancy, that was recommended by the lonely planet. We had a nice stay except for the use of the "free" internet that required a token every 20 minutes and to ask for such a toke...

A STORY OF LOVES

... near the harbor, because there looked to be an interesting fort at the top. I found a secret stone stairway that was concealed by some potted plants next to the Monaco Yacht Club, and I began to climb. The stairway took me in swirling, illogical directions, past seagulls and solariums, and people laying together in pebbly patches near the sea. It took me up the face of the rock wall and around Monaco's short coastline. An impressively placed stone building of massive proportions ...

Morocco - days 13 to 15

Thursday 14th - Moulay Busselton We had to be up really early to leave Essouira by 7am as we had an exhaustingly long drive up the coast, luckily the wind had died down and it was almost non-existant as we pulled down our tents. Luckily most of the drive that day was on motorways, so at least the ride was pretty smooth, but due to the fast speed that we were going we were getting totally blown away with the windows of the truck open. But it was either that ...

the steam train to Tangier

... with people sitting in the halls - the food man couldn't make it down -- plus impossible to go to the loo as people had blocked the entrance - it was pretty much like peak hour on the trains in Melbourne. With all the bodies it was steaming hot inside and we all pretty much passed out and slept. I read for a bit and was entertained by the baby that was in our compartment... We arrived in Tangier 5 hours later and got some big cabs to our hotel - some really ...

Tangier, Morocco and back to the Madrid airport

... were gracious, the pushy street vendors were just annoying. The town hadn't quite come alive when we got there at 9 but we got to see the Kasbah and an Anglican church and the neighborhoods where the people live. The city is so run down and pretty dirty, there wasn't much that was nice there but the people were just so proud of their city it was very apparent and very neat. We did all the tourist stuff, saw the snake charmer, put on some hats and sang with the people in the ...

They say you change...

... happy and bright beneath their scarved heads. My mind flashbacked to many hours spent on the beach at home, but was quickly snapped back as I came across a group of three boys eating out of a pile of garbage. There are some things you just can't take photographs of. Wandering back to my hotel, I sat down on a bench and gazed out over waves that move with the rhythm of my life. My bills may not be paid, my bank account might be on its way to empty, but ...

... world. The view just so happened to be in a leather shop. Tai got himself into trouble here. The guy was badgering him about what he thought a good price would be for a cushion cover, and Tai made the mistake of answering his question. This was the opening of negotiations in his view, and he got really angry that he had opened with a price and then wouldn't buy. Trick the foreigner into naming or asking for a price and then expect him to buy. He followed us all the way out of the ...
