... of telling us to get away from there waves the friendly locals told us to hold on to their leaches and they had such paddle power that they towed us out back before trying to push us onto the waves. It was very sweet but pointless- we were spent and just needed to get out at ths stage.

After dinner it was off to our plush 12 hour bus ride to Lima with 160 degree seats, still didn't sleep much though sleeping beauty got on just fine.

Mooching with the Moches!

Whoever said that obviously never went inside...

You are greeted by a few Peruvian hairless dogs, each one uglier than the next. Shame, I wonder if they know what they look like. They actually seem like a really friendly breed, hairless twig of a tail wagging, coming up to you for a pat. All they ever get are shrieks of how hideous they are and ...

... ceramics the most interesting. The Moche made small containers in the shape of all sorts of animals and they are so well preserved that I have a hard time at first believing that they are originals. Additionally, the museum does an excellent job of showing how assorted artifacts were made, making them more interesting than just a bunch of old stuff in cases.

Outside, I head over to the tombs where everything was found. Just holes in the ground, really, but the main tombs have been ...

parting ways for the day

... to share their table. We talked a little bit and then they took me around to see a couple of museums. The museums were OK, but having a guide of the city was nice, especially because I had all day to kill anyway. After that I went to check out the city market. On my way there a guy behind me says, ‘Hay demasiados gringos aqui”. Besically saying, ‘there are too many white people here.’ I looked over my shoulder to see a guy who appeared ...

Unexpected extended stay in Trujillo

... the hold. Hmmm. Despite this, the bus set off as expected, though we were instructed to shut the curtains, and the lights were turned off. However, disaster struck a mere 25 minutes into the journey. The bus abruptly came to a halt in the middle of the road. With no view of the cause, we were left to wonder. A puzzling few minutes passed before the TV screens all went blank. The driver then came through from the front and announced that we had to turn back because the road ...

Pyramid of the moon

... trip, her sister was with friends, I was leaving that night, Wendy was leaving a couple of hours later and there would be no one else at the hostel then. So it would be only them all alone to themselves...Soon enough the taxi driver came to pick me up and both Vanessa and Wendy gave me great big hugs – another new pair of friends that I had to say goodbye to. As I looked back, they were still waving as the taxi turned a corner.

... and that tourists were often the easy targets into receiving them. I then started to wander if I had received bad karma for not letting Maria at the HomeSweetHome hostel in Arequipa know that she had forgot to charge me an extra night that I had stayed at the hostel. Now in indirect way I was paying more back by losing the 50 soles. Eventually I gave up on the fight. There was no use arguing – I was just going to let it go. After giving back ...

Vanessa drank a bit; we laughed and I had a good time with my new friends. On the way back to the hostel the taxi driver seemed a bit intoxicated. He stopped and started on some parts of the road and didn’t seem to be present. We nervously laughed at this idiot and were relieved when we eventually got out back at the hostel.
