... in Peru. The mere sight of the toilets was sufficient enough to give me a code red system lockdown - enough said. I do really hope one of them didnīt improvise and spent the night laying down in the long washing basin.
Day3 started at 5am again and breakfast consisted of a huge birthday cake (with no bday to celebrate), and a roll. The food was however unbelievably good on the whole considering our location and the limited resources. Everything we ate was designed to max ...

Serenity in the Sacred Valley

... barman about local customs, the nearby (6-7 hour) sights in the jungle and the fact that there was a very good spiritual man not far from Ollayantambo (apparently far better than a Shaman). We exchanged e-mail addresses in case I should come back and had to time and desire to venture into it. It was no more than around eight thirty when I got back to my room, but I enjoyed myself with two episodes of Grey’s and then had a nice long and well-deserved sleep. The ...

... more than 7 hours without lunch.
Once we arrived at La playa, we saw it was a poor village, but there we saw the first tap in 3 days, which was welcoming to wash our wildly hair. Astrid was very happy with this facility. ;-) We went to a local store to have some food for the next day and beer for the evening. This ofcourse for a very touristicprice, they really have no shame at some places. Our guide and the man of the house (weird man) followed our example on the beer ...

Out of the clouds

... the mosquitoes got everyone. Then once we finished with that we left our original group and met up with another group. The mythic group that I still miss a lot.

A good mix of Spanish and English speakers and partyers and not-so-much-partyers and guys and girls and everything else. We were originally supposed to meet them all at the restaurant but no one was there and everyone I spoke to told me that they wouldnīt be there for a while and they ...

The Inca Trail

... local finally took pity on us and phoned the tour company. They picked us up and we finally made it back to Cuzco at about 10pm.

The Inca Trail was an awesome adventure, and I'd recommend it to everyone. There are many other options of getting to Machu Picchu, but there's nothing quite like hiking for 3 days and battling your way through to the Sun Gate at sunrise. I felt like I'd achieved something I've always wanted to do, it really is an amazing experience.

The Royal Inca Trail

... Jenny, looked at her, grabbed her and sobbed, I felt so rough but I had made it.

After walking through I fell against a wall, broke down with the emotion, and took a quick rest. In the distance the group could see Machu Picchu, unfortunately my eyes were too blurry and I could only see colour variations. I asked how much further did we have to go, I was told 40 minutes, great, I would be able to make a 40 minute walk down hill, WRONG, I was just about ...

The Lares Trek

... a very touristy town where the Inca trail starts from. We walked off our lunch (and more) climibing over 250 steps up another ruin to get great views of the town and learn a bit more about the Inca Civil War, as well as seeing the remains that the Spanish did not destroy... Then it was free time to chill in our hostel, although we all decided to climb part of a mountain to see sunset - sadly it turned out to be us getting gradually colder and colder while ...

Ollantaytambo to Socma

... we decided that we wanted to go down to sit on some rocks and watch the full sunrise, we sat there for a few minutes and then the sky became a spectrum of colour, first a dull blue, then yellow, then orange and finally a full flash of red, it was amazing, the dark black silhouette of mountains framing the fiery sky. I snapped a couple of shots and drank in the beauty of my surroundings, I could hear the rushing water below, where a river wound it's way through the valley, "WOW ...

Exploring the impressive ruins at Ollantaytambo

... another one in front of us. It gave me a good opportunity to hablar Espanol. Muy bueno. I couldn't resist it. I bought one of the famous tuque and paraded it all the way back to the van. Hola amigo. Gracias!

I t was quite an enjoyable afternoon where ruins are made for heaven having steps leading way up to the sky! (too much oxygen in mi cabeza) :)

Thankful for the blind man magical moment!

The Sacred Valley and the salad..

... ill. The one who focused too much on the “dangers” of Peruvian salad instead of the good food that was in front of her, looked like she was going to throw up any second. Soon enough her friend Jennifer yelled to the driver “Stop!” and then the door flashed open for Wendy to jump out to throw up on the side of the road. We listened to Wendy vomiting and waited patiently for her to get back on the minibus. The minibus had to make a ...
