Hello, Just a quick update just now, I´ll add more after we have visited Machu Picchu in a couple of days. We are now in Cusco, the tourist capital of Peru. It is a beautiful town with a lot of history, however getting here felt like a bit of an incredible journey. So far we have found travelling around both Ecuador and Peru a pretty good experience, the buses are more or less on time and are good value for money (about 1USD per h of travel). However yesterday we met our first blockade! The j...

The owner and his wife – both of a very mature age – were extremely sweet and we chatted a little bit (especially the wife talked very much about Denmark being close to Germany and all the beer there was in Germany). While waiting for the driver, I saw two locals trying to transport a woman in a wheelchair down the extremely steep cobblestone streets. That was not easy at all – especially since they could not use the ...

It also provided us with our first taste of té de coca, a hot drink made with the leaf of the coca plant... which also happens to be the same plant from which a certain drug of a similar name is made. Now, we certainly didn't get a high, but we did feel slightly funny. Fortunately, it doesn't taste very nice so we won't be having it again anyway.

After arriving at camp and regaining our energy we had some free time before dinner, a group of us decided to use this to explore the village of Socma. Now when I say village please do not picture anything like you would see in the UK, this was more like 5 or 6 houses sprawn across the mountains, no roads and no electricity. As we walked through the village we were met by donkeys, pigs and horses, all roaming freely and without a care for ...

The following day I changed accommodation from Loki to this inn just 50m down from the hostel. The change of scenery was from noisy young backpackers to the sound of young kids in the morning with a strange air freshener smell lurking about in the hotel that I didn’t quite like. I wasn’t sure which accommodation was better ...

After a short rest, Brenda, Marcel and I continued our walk downhill towards Huayracpunku where the porters and the horses were already waiting for us to have lunch. Finally, the others arrived from half hour up to an hour later.
After we had finished lunch, we continued our hike, but just as the day before, the clouds were growing dark, and then the rain fell down. We all stood under a shelter ...
... Cuzco. Brenda was always passionate about horses and horse riding. So she was especially looking forward to it. We arrived at the stables just outside Cuzco where we were joined by Lior, a short Israeli guy with an American accent, also staying at Hostel Loki, who I thought sounded and looked like a younger Woody Allen. There was also an older guy from Lima who in turn reminded me of a typical cowboy with his cowboy hat. So we had an ...
