Finally heading for Cusco...

... one, which had been vacant for quite a while. I decided again to order alpaca steak, but this time it was a huge disappointment. The breaded piece of meat was nothing like the medallion they had described in the menu, and the meat was dry and far from tender. But I was hungry and too tired to make fuzz about it. However, when I paid with my credit card, and he asked if I wanted to add some tips, I only added 2 soles (because I was not satisfied, but still found ...

Inca Kingdom

Ciao!

Peru Encompassed

... br>I was still bad in the morning so we decided so go see a doctor. We had a bus booked to Limka for 1700 this afternoon so it was a last shot. The clinic was a private one so quite nice and soon after arrival they took some blood and other unspeakable samples before the doctor came in with a glum look on his face and explained that they ...

Argentine Cowboys - The Gauchos

... with a hundred thousand cows, the guachos were strong and fearless in battle and proved themselves again and again against the Spanish.

The original gaucho was easily recognized by his baggy trousers, an import from Europe, specifically Turkey, his long curved knife or facon, his horse and his boleadoras, three hard balls of leather connected by long leather straps which he used to bring down runaway animals or during hunting ...

Macchu Picchu and Lake Titicaca...Peru is big!

... a very windy road and quite dangerous so we wanted to do it in the most comfort and safety. Plus they have a great ticket system for bags and meals included.

Cuzco, Peru 21-22nd October,

The bus ride took 23 hours overnight in total and the roads in the last part the next morning did induce travel sickness in both of us so we tried to sleep or nap most of the way. The meals were vegetables with rice, and a strange portion of 2 sushi rolls plus a dessert. Breakfast was ...

Trapped in Cusco

... see Macchu Pichu and headed back to Cusco where we changed out the spark plugs, changed the oil and checked everything over again. It seemed to be running well and we needed to get to La Paz so we headed back on the road towards Bolivia.

About 50 miles down the road, it started running again like a moped - kicking out black smoke and hitting a top speed of 30 mph. We pulled it over into a small ...

And so, today I'll take it easy and get everything ready for tomorrow's 5am start. See you in five days!

Update: 1/10/09

So I actually didn't quite make it onto the Salkantay trek. Not too long after finishing the blog entry I developed a killer headache, sore throat, etc and so when I ...
