Barros Arana 135 Puerto Natales, Patagonia, Chile, 6200000, 56-61-411945
We took a bus to Puerto Natales and went to sleep in the hostel Amerindia which turned out to be quiet a lovely place and quiet despite the thin walls. Breakfast was pretty good (muesli/yoghurt/good bread/marmelade/butter) compared to what we normally get (stale bread/butter/jam/coffee) and there is free Internet which is always pleasant. We spent the day doing, well, nothing :) We discovered a place called Patagonia Dulce which has great coffee and incredibly delicious (finally) chocolate. W...

... restaurant (La Mesita Grande), we stocked up for the journey north on Navimag's newest and finest ship, the Eden.
More ferry/transport boat than passenger boat, we and 30 other tourists were lifted onto the deck via the goods lift (a true top gun moment for all the men in the group).
Accompanying us on our journey north through the fjords of Chile would be 4 trucks, one container load of junk metal and 20 horses. It was clear that the tourists on board the ...
Puerto Natales, Patagonia, Chile anthonykathryn... pick it up at 6pm. We then walked around town, brought our bus ticket back to Punta Arenas and went to the supermarket, on the way we managed to attract the attention of a little friend. Our little friend was a cute little dog with the saddest eyes and he followed us everywhere and even waited whilst we went into shops. The saddest thing was leaving him outside whilst we went into our hostel and watching him wait outside for us. We chilled out in the ...
Puerto Natales, Patagonia, Chile dlz... steps! We made good progress though and stopped for lunch at the lake before cracking on to Camping Italiano, which we reached by 3.30pm, ahead of forecast. There was plenty of time to set up camp, cook and build rain defences before the night set in. In bed by 8pm again – such party animals!

DAY 3

We awoke to the sound of rain and what sounded like thunder. We were meant to be leaving our bags in the tent and heading up into Valle del Frances for the day ...
Puerto Natales, Patagonia, Chile tom_monique... at the campsite I was greated by swarms of mosquitos and the shock of having to pay for the night which I was not aware of. That made me upset considering the cost for a site was more than what I was paying in town and after paying the expensive entrance fee for the park. I found out that there where three free campsites throughout the park which I now planned to use. The ...
Puerto Natales, Chile nycos... admire them from close at hand with no tour guides telling you to do this or that. The Puma Glacier especially is cool here and we spent a morning trying to find ice caves - defo not something you could do on an organised tour. Then its a big 10 hour day and a hike through John Gardner Pass - he is famous even here in Chile. Nice bit of uphill trekking involved here which is not easy when you are carrying about 15kg´s + on your back and then you factor in the wind ...
Puerto Natales, Patagonia, Chile ray_harrington... I suspected I might freeze to death and was dreading what was lying ahead. The past couple weeks the weather had been rainy and cold in the park, which was a bit unusual for this season, and we met a plethora of travelers that gave up before completing the trek. So the four of us left the catamaran with about 50 other eager backpackers passing a long line of not so eager backpackers that had just finished the hike and were returning to society. They looked ...
