    ... break 400m higher up the mountain at the top of the chairlift. The chairlift wasn't operational in the shoulder season, but it would have saved an hour's walk for only $10. The walk wasn't so difficult but it might make a difference later in the day when we needed the energy to get us to the summit.

    We left our bags on the bus, as did all of the other passengers, and sat in a café with a Dutch fellow named Franz who was trying to reach Pucón in order to climb the nearby Volcano Villarica, and whom we now consider to be our friend.     My reaction to the cold didn't surprise me because I know I don't handle it very well. Ian, the guy I did the motorbike ride with in Vietnam, could vouch for that!     ... all of our waterproof clothes first and clip on an extra patch to act as our slide, we were given a plastic slide but could only use it on certain slopes. I was surprised just how fast we went, I followed the guide and tried to use my ice axe brake as little as possible and quickly learnt how to navigate the windy frozen luge trail.
