Hoi An's expensive I know, but the value for the money here was questionable. I had a very basic room for $6, way up on the top floor (5 flights up), with a shared bathroom. Other options that I considered were an ultra-basic dorm on the first floor for $7 (a ripoff), or a dorm on the top floor for $5 which was very cramped - all the beds were pushed together with no space in between. There was no breakfast included, and while there was internet they turned it off at 9pm - even the wifi!
Nevertheless, service was good, just wish the rooms were better value.

Riverside French Colonial Town in the Rain
Day 1 - Arrival, Old Town
Grey cloads and rain all day on the bus so not much of a view of the mountains or coastline along the way. Arrived in town after dark and managed to get a motobike for a price I was willing to pay. Found this to be an interesting experience since I was carrying my big pack on my back while on the back of the bike. …
The Bitter and the Sweet
The Sweet:
Hoi An has been quite an experience! We arrived early in the morning from an overnight bus (which was incredibly uncomfortable and long), and after finding a hotel and getting breakfast, our first stop was to the tailors! After a recommendation from the hotel and checking online reviews, we went to Kimmy Custom Tailors down the road …
Beach and suits (not together)
When we first arrived here in Hoi An, we knew that we had one main thing on our list - to buy tailor made suits. Our friends from earlier in the trip (Gary and Darren) had been to Hoi An and raved about it, and also had suits made. It seems like the tailoring capital of Vietnam. So we had this planned before we went abroad, and after getting …
Banana Split
The next day we had until 11 to check out. Me and Gary were up earlyish as usual, so we got ready and checked out at around half 9. He went up to check on the other two, they were still in bed. So we went for a mooch, i went and collected the shorts i had made. I tried them on, they werent like i expected, i wanted them longer and looser, Gary said …
Hoi An
Got into Hoi An last night at 1830. As is becoming the norm the bus dropped us off at some ****** hotel outside of town that must have been paying him comission! Had to walk for a while then stumbled accross the cheapest hotel in the lonely planet guide. It had gotten dark so figured i'd just take the plunge. Its nice enouh had a single room last …
