When we first arrived here in Hoi An, we knew that we had one main thing on our list - to buy tailor made suits. Our friends from earlier in the trip (Gary and Darren) had been to Hoi An and raved about it, and also had suits made. It seems like the tailoring capital of Vietnam. So we had this planned before we went abroad, and after getting checked into the hotel - another two double beds, TV, fridge as standard for $4 each - we went into the Old Town. Hoi An is a small town which has gained...
Hoi An, Vietnam comedyad Got into Hoi An last night at 1830. As is becoming the norm the bus dropped us off at some ****** hotel outside of town that must have been paying him comission! Had to walk for a while then stumbled accross the cheapest hotel in the lonely planet guide. It had gotten dark so figured i'd just take the plunge. Its nice enouh had a single room last night but moving into a dorm today.
Went out for some dinner last night. Got to say that Hoi an has to be one of the prettiest towns i've ...
So had a mill around the town on saturday. Toyed with the idea of getting a suit or some shirts made (you ca have them done for between 40 - 120 dollars) but figured i didn't really need them and that i could do with not spending the money. Went out that night and bumped into some of the guys from Hanoi and a few others from Jersey and Canada. Wen tout for a few beers at the Before and Now bar, which is pretty cool, and then went to the beach party. Got drinking with some Scandanavian guys (...
Hoi An, Vietnam dubasfisher Oh my goodness Hoi An is extremely hot!!! Got here around 6 in the morning and it's already boiling.
Hoi An is famous for it's cloth shops so first on my list of things to do is to hit the tailor. Decided on a nice red coat for when I get home to the Scottish cold, took only one day to make and cost me only $25 but quite bulky so wouldn't fit in my bag. Decided to post it home....... cost me $55, hmmm not such a bargain now!
Had decided after leaving Saigon that I was just going to ch...
Her er virkelig bare skoono! Her er rigtig mange forsamlingssale, i kinesisk st...
Hoi An, Vietnam ibenMany travelers I met in other countries warned me about the Vietnamese and how "mean" they can be. While some can be rude and unfriendly, there are plenty of rude Americans, Brits, French, Argentinians, etc. so I don't see how one can generalize about a whole population. I agree that some of the locals are intimidating because they are pushy, always trying to sell you something. A big part of their culture IS about making money and they can easily rip off vulnerable backpackers, but if you al...
Hoi An, Vietnam planetvale"I hear the bus trip overnight to Hoi An is pretty rough, maybe I should take the train" "Noooo people say that but there is no problem, road has been fixed" This is a conversation between the hotel staff/travel agent staff and I about three days ago. What I endured last night, would come close to the most uncomfortable nights "sleep" I've ever had. The only worse night would have to be when i kipped in someones front lawn in the Lake District in April in just shorts and a jumper. Vietnamese ...
Hoi An, Vietnam steve.brine...

It was Mary’s birthday on 3rd September, just as the rain had started in earnest. The young people at the workshop put on a surprise party in the morning. They made both of us cover our faces while they laid out the fruit, biscuits, seeds, sweets and the lovely birthday cake, inscribed “Happy Birthday Young Lady” and topped with two number candles. It was bucketing down rain during the whole party and my sister Paula arrived, looking like a drowned ...
