Good location at cheap price, but that's it!

Located in the Hollywood area, the Hollywood & Highland Hotel & Hostel is one of a bunch in the area. Probably the closest to the tourist sites, as well as a shorter walk from the Metro stop. And across the street from the CVS and LA Fitness.

When finding the place, you will have to climb the steps to get to the hostel. And there does not seem to be any elevator, so you will have to carry your things up and down the steps. Once you reach the 2nd floor, there just seems to be so many issues. Oh boy, where do I begin?

For starters, there seems to be only 1 person on staff at reception desk. So if so many people happen to arrive around the same time, you could be in for a long wait. And possibly have to wait to store your luggage, to check in later.

The dorm rooms are very cramped, with hardly any room to walk around. That is also due to people putting their things on the floor, so you have to walk around, or over them. And if the lights are off, that would be even harder.

Also, the air-conditioner seems very old and tired, as it does not do a good job keeping the room cool. And very noisy, so I can't really blame people for wanting it off.

Each room has a private bathroom, which only for 1 person at a time. A huge problem, especially in the morning, as this will mean a longer wait than usual. Even worse, there are no other bathrooms down the hall. I ended up using the bathroom at a LA Fitness, since I had a membership there.

There is a free breakfast, which is okay. And a lounge that does not look particularly inviting, as it is small. It does feel like this place tries to cram in as much as possible. And there are no laundry facilities in the hostel. Instead, you will have to go to a laundromat some blocks away, to wash your clothes.

So is there anything good about this place? I would say, just the location, as I think this is the hostel that is closest to a Metro stop. And in the middle of the touristy area, so a very short walk to the main sights. Strangely enough, this would be the only reason why I would ever consider staying here again, as some of the better hostels in Hollywood, are quite a walk to get to.

This was the cheapest hostel that I found in Hollywood, reminding me that "you get what you pay for". And unfortunately, that is what makes this place one of the worst places that I ever stayed at. I recommend you find another place to stay at, and avoid this place.

... more tame parts of town so we decided that this was a good idea. We had already paid for the second night in hollywood though so we tried to get our money back for the second night. Unfortunately they would not refund our cash but could only give us a free night at some other point. This was'nt very useful as I didnt see myself coming to hollywood anytime soon. We booked a later date anyway and decided to ring up and try to get a refund later on in the hope that ...

... first visited a chocolate factory and Cactus garden. We then went for brunch at a Chinese restaurant... It was strange eating Chinese food at 10am! Later we stopped at a shopping outlet as is always on the agenda! We cannot buy anything as we are at our limit on weight, and we already have a years supply of clothes we trundle around with anyway! At 3pm some people got off our coach including the Danish family who we were sorry to see go, to ...

Our last day. After check out, we stopped for a coffee at the local mall. It was really hot today, every day the weather is hot and lovely. Very clear skies too while we have been here.

Sad to see Sue go, we saw her off on the metro, as she navigated her way to the airport on her big adventure.

We had all our luggage with us too, so had found a shopping centre with ...

          Beaches of LA

Despite the layer of fog (potentially smog) covering everywhere, I think we covered all the beaches of LA. Arriving first to Laguna Beach ...the only problem with juniper is she is rather big and expensive to park so up through Newport Beach and Huntington we just drove through and admired from Highway 1. We then hit Venice Beach also known as Muscle beach, mainly to ...

... we set out early Tuesday
morning to see just what this shop was all about. On our arrival, we paid to park on the street - adhering to all the rules our friends gave us about parking in LA: make sure it is not street cleaning day, check and double check the signage all around you, read the meter and pay, pay, pay the piper. We did. Then we started our latest adventure.

Around the corner and down the middle of the block, we looked at the signage ...
