Surfing, sea, sun = wooooo!

Had a such a good week here in the land of Oz! We left Sydney early Monday morning to go to a Surf Camp in Arrawarra. Most of the day was spent driving, we had a few stops on the way and arrived around 5pm. The weather was so awful - proper monsoon rain!! It just didn't stop, so the camp site was completely flooded. We had a great BBQ in the evening with salad and veg! Something I haven't seen for a while!! Stocked up on our 5 a day for the past week! It was an early start on Tuesday for our ...

Playing Spot The Hippy at Byron Bay

As I've already mentioned i didn't schedule my trip very well and i literally just have enough time to get to my flight in Sydney. So, Byron Bay was a really short trip. The bus rolled in town as the sun was setting (it was actually on on really spectacular sunset) and I had to leave early in the morning. But, of what i did see in Byron Bay made me feel like I should have spent a load of time here. Back in the 60's there was a bit of a hippie festival held in Byron Bay and they liked it s...

G'Day Mates!

After a short flight from New Zealand we landed in Sydney and automatically felt the change in temperature! We stayed in this pretty sweet hostel which was an old railway station converted into a hostel. The best thing about it was that each night they cooked a meal for $5, so we didn't have to do much cooking! The 2nd day we arrived it was 38 degrees outside so we headed to Manly Beach which is one of the many beaches in Sydney. The ride there was pretty cool as we had to...

Beaches, Bars and hippies

Got to Byron and checked into the Beachside Holliday Village. This hostel is more like the ones I imagined I would find. Very basic, mostly tatty and a little tired generally. It's ok though and without really noticing I found myself trying to book beds in the busiest holiday month here, Easter. So I extended my stay to cover my time here in Byron. It was just as well, I had to pay 6 dollars for a cutlery, plate and saucer because people keep stealing them! Still travelling with Rose and Ola,...

Byron Bay 11th March - 12th March 2009

11th March 2009 We arrived in Byron at just after 8am, collected by the hostel and given a guided tour of Byron which took all of 10 mins. We then checked in but couldn't get in to our room until 11am so sat with 3 others from the same bus as us and watched a film. At 11.30am we moved in to our room and met our new room mates, all of whom we very nice and friendly. After freshening up we went for something to eat before taking a walk along the beach to the lighthouse - well we didn't quite ma...

Byron Bay

Stayed here for a weekend. We bought 3 x 2man tents between 6 of us. After the first night, half the lads couldn't hack it so they dived into a local hostel (Aquarious - savage spot). The 3 of us who remained (myself, will, fox) took a tent each and toughed it out. The tents were like ovens in the morning, and most of the night was spent killing mozzies, ants and spiders that were crawling in. The constant noise of birds, lizards, iguanas etc that were roaming around the tent didn't help the ...

OZ Experience Trip - Surf camp and Byron Bay

On Saturday the 14 of April it was time to leave Sydney :-( The OZ experience bus was leaving at 6:40am. (In the morning) So it was a nice and early start for me and I am sure for the rest of the people on the bus. I made it to the bus stop on time, but I remember been a little nervous, as I did not know what to expect and who I was going to meet. But I remembered what my sister Helen told me before I left Ireland he said "That I should not take people so serious". And so I am going to try. A...

Rain, Rain and More Rain

Sadly it rained pretty much the whole time we were in Byron Bay, 7 days!!! We still had an amazing time, luckily we were sharing an apartment with just 4 other people so we could sit indoors and watch films and play cards and drinking games to pass the time. We also had to visit the infamous 'cheeky monkeys' bar for an evening, although his time Josh refrained from dancing on the tables! Despite the rain we made it to the beach twice and managed to hike up to the lighthouse which sits on the ...

Byron Bay

Monday Sep 27th - Day 153 It's a doddle travelling in Australia, the tourist industry is a well oiled, user friendly machine. The 3 1/2 bus ride to Byron Bay was comfortable and left bang on time. Having stopped to drop off and pick up in several places we arrived in Byron at lunchtime where we were met by Stuart, from Backpackers Holiday Village, where we had booked 2 nights accomodation. Along with a few others we were given a quick tour of Byron in the hostels minivan before we checked in....

Byron Bay

Arrived in Byron Bay. Checked into the Holiday Village Hostel. Hostel was OK but wouldnt wanna stay there to long. It was right opposite Cheeky Monkeys. Which if you know what that is its not to great living opposite it. You end up parting every night. So i stayed there for a week before moving into the Byron Bay Dive Center. This was a nice hostel and plus most people stayed around for a while so really friendly. Also had a nice lounge and a good kitchen. Just a quick one, in my whole time i...
