After having such a nice time at the Hostel Natura, it was with a heavy heart, and ridiculously heavy backpack, that we left to catch our bus to Rio. This had none of the glam of our bus in Argentina, no liveried waiters discreetly topping up the champers, no monogrammed bedlinen and reclining bed-seats. Despite the tickets costing almost double that of our previous trip, the bus turned out to be a knackered old coach, with a grumpy driver sporting the most amazing grey coiffured hair and a s...
Paraty, Brazil andyandemJust arrived in Paraty, a small seaside town about 4.5 hours south of Rio, after spending 5 glorious fun and sun filled days in la cidade maravilhosa, where we met some awesome people and saw some great things. We were unpleasantly surprised to see that its absolutely tipping it down, so much so that the roofs of the hostel where we are staying are leaking. lovely. We have been guaranteed that it will be sunny tomorrow thouh, although we think this may just be a ploy in order to make us actua...
Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil chrishodsonOla, Just got back from a super fun day out in Paratay....we went to a natural waterslide about 7k from the town- it was awesome! Ill put some píccies up in a bit. It was great fun. Then we went to a local cachaça distillery (cachaça is the national Brazilian boozedrink, it´s made from sugar cane, and apparently, they sell more cahaça in Brazil than they do coca cola), and sampled a few of the local products.... Then we walked a few miles back down the road we came, as we didnt know when the ...
Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil chrishodsonExcitement starts bubbling up again as we're winding round the tropical hills gazing over the dazzling coastline below. Passing by so many beaches with great breaks and clear clean waters we can only hope that Paraty is as good. Surprisingly enough GT's back in high spirits as it feels as if we're traveling again, being back on the buses rather than dealing with the chaos and hassle of airports. Although, our adventures this time on the buses have been more interesting than usual. After arriv...
Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil gareth.alanna Ladies and gentlemen, as the title already suggests, yes WE TOOK A BUS! 2 on the same day even. And it gets worse even, as on the second ride we even had our own bread and drinks with us...
But first things first. We started the day bright and early to go to the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio. It was a bright and sunny day and we decided to do as the locals and take the bus. As we are not very experienced with buses we foolishly thought that the bus would take us straight to the st...
Hello,
as mentioned in our previous blog we will not dwell on the beaches and the sun and the temperature etc. etc. The pictures will say more than a thousand words :-).
We are introducing a new element to our blog, which will (hopefully) get you, our readers, more involved with our travels. And in due course you will actually get to choose what we will do. So, what's it all about? We are starting a poll. The first one is about travels, but future ones will let you make some cho...
Today after watching the Sun come up over the beach, I decided Rio is too dangerous to my health and I have moved to Paraty about 4 hours down the coast....
Arrived at sunset - the route here was cool lots of little villages and hills covered in forest.. Paraty looks to be a sleepier fishing town so hopefully less crazy!
24 hours spent on a bus brought us here, Parati. We were soo happy to be off the bus and happy that Historic Center Hostel was able to find us 2 beds in their bed and breakfast. We have enjoyed walking the cobble stone streets that are sometimes flooded by high tide. Mingling with the other tourists (mostly brazilian), enjoying coffee and walks up to the old fort. The historic center is quite magical and very well preserved. It is now a unesco heritage site. All of the different colors of doo...

... on the light, waking Steve. He saw Debs, wearing his clothes & lying near him so went over to speak to her. Checking closely to ensure I had not accidentally engineered a rape, I listened to his hilariously weird, verging on spooky mating attempts. Within 5 mins she had made her excuses, escaped Steve and miraculously but not surprisingly found the keys in her bag. I had a lovely sleep in my bed for the remaining night hours, ready for my to journey to Paraty in the morning.
Ilha Grande, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil gazanova... I had collected, and to the disgust of their on looking wives!! Then one lovely person on our trip, and I shall change the name to protect their integrity, so lets say Beyonce, got rather ill and the return journey to the dock was spent covered in vomit as I was sat downwind whilst in aid of a very drunk person hurling overboard. I then assisted carrying Beyonce back to the Pousada up that very steep hill I mentioned earlier, and remember a drunk person is a dead weight ...
