Edinburgh

I've just had a fantastic two week holiday tripping around Scotland. I mostly got around using a hop-on hop-off bus service which does a circuit around Scotland, although I did supplement this with an intercity coach, many ferries, a friend's vehicle (including chauffeur - thanks Suse!) and what the kiwi's among us like to call tramping (that's "hiking" for everyone else). To pick up where I last left off, I travelled from Inverness west to the misty Isle of Skye, although I think 'rainy' mig...

I'm in love with Scotland. It is such a breathtaking country. Edinburgh was a blast - Gem and i enjoyed it so much that we booked another night there! The hostel is amazing - very colourful, social and inviting. The staff are friendly, the paintings on the walls vibrant, the kitchen is big and there is free tea, coffee and hot chocolate all day! Whee! First day there we went on a free walking tour of the city with New Europe. Like the one in Berlin, it was awesome! I learnt so much about the ...

I have been surviving off of free food from work and I'm not just talking about muffins and scones....it's like salads and bagels and cheese and veggies and milk and juice....etc etc....WOW I am sooo lucky!!! So I've made a new plan...so that I can save alot of moola as well as perhaps bring home some UK dollars which as you all know have an awesome exchange rate when you are coming back to Canada. The sights and sounds of Scotland

It has been quite a while since I last updated you on our happenings on the other side of the world - primarily because either 1) we have been busy or 2) out of contact! So you're in store for quite a long email this time round... Since writing the previous email we spent about another week in Edinburgh hitting both the job market and the flat market so we now know the streets of New Town and Old Town Edinburgh fairly well! During the week we saw countless recruitment agencies with a few resu...

Work and other random misadventures

As many of you may have guessed, I am writing this email from work - my amazingly "busy" job (note sarcasm!) as a receptionist where I get to answer phones, order couriers and try and figure out how the strange UK mail system works...that's about it! I was a little frustrated with it to begin with however after thinking about I thought I might enjoy not doing too much work for a change considering I have been busting a gut at pretty much anything I do work wise for the past four and a half ye...

Well Hello, For some reason I'm here in Scotland. Let me tell you why; I was bumming around in London with Paddy and we ran out of cool stuff to do, and it wasn't pound a pint night, so we couldn't afford to do much at all, expect play endless rounds of MarioKart and MonkeyBall. Got a text from Sophie and Jules telling me to come up to Edinburgh. Booked a 40 quid return bus to Ediburgh leaving Thursday morning got there at around 7pm. Spent the night in Edinburgh at the High Street Hostel, sp...

Kathleen comes to visit Scotland!

It is hard to sum up such a week. We went out for a few meals, breakfast at a place called Always Sunday, where we sat at the window on High Street and had a huge breakfast (which included haggis). There was dinner at the Castle Arms (more haggis). And Kathleen's favorite part of St. Andrew's where we went on the weekend was the sweet potatoe and ricotta lasagne she had at Victoria's Cafe, I had a turkey brie and cranberry wrap with curly fries which was great too. My favorite part of St Andr...

Edinburgh is absolutely stunning... the weather unfortunately isn't the greatest... but the beauty of the city makes up for it... The city isn't very big and easily walkable... It is very welcoming which is a nice change from London... i'm staying at the High Street Hostel which is awesome, super cheap with tons of added bonuses... there is a great network for travellers looking for work here... i will definetely be back (not sure when) but this would be a really great place to settle and wor...

9/3/2008 Got up, walked down to Waverly St and caught a hop-on, hop off bus. It took me all over Edinburgh, I got off at the castle and looked around there. Then I went to the tartan museum and then to the art gallery. Bought some scottish presents for everyone at home! Had lunch/dinner at Chocolate Soup, my new favourite ...
