    Great hostel in good location

We stayed in a private room with en-suite which was comfortable, clean and relatively quiet (apart from the homeless guy outside singing at the top of his voice for most of the day and night.) The complimentary breakfast was served upstairs and included bagels, cream cheese, jam, porridge, fruit, tea and coffee. Location was great, very central and close to the bus routes.

Place was in a great location.
Nice to have the free breakfast (toast or bagels with the occasional fresh fruit). Great to base your sightseeing from. Fairly clean.

    Good Location

We stayed at HI San Francisco Downtown for the first 7 nights we were in San Fran and then again 1 night before we left. Overall, I was very happy with it. The first 7 nights we were in room 511. It was clean and relatively quiet. We had a private room with a shared bathroom. The bathrooms were also clean and we there was never a time when we hd to wait in line or anything. The toilets had this built in sink on the tank that saves water. I though that was neat. The kitchen was clean and well maintained with nice window views of the street. The staff was very helpful and full of great recommendations for restraunts and directions.
Our one night stay at the end of our trip was not as good. We were on the 2nd floor and it was very noisy from the front desk and people coming up the stairs all night. Also someone was smoking a lot of pot and it was drifting into our window, which was annoying. But hey, 7 good nights out of 8 isn't too shabby, right? :) And the location is awesome. 2 blocks from Union Square, 2 blocks from Bart Powell Station, F-line and the Trolly line.

Good location, better room after moving, breakfast went downhill

allocated room 325...a box in the middle of the building...2 windows into a shaft. No air even though open, boiling hot even though its was early March. Squeezed in between the vending machine room which buzzed all night and was filled up at 11pm and the toilet and shower next door. Needless to say we moved rooms and upgraded to an en-suite double.

For shared bathrooms there are only 2 toilets and 2 showers per floor which has 25 rooms per floor. Some of these are doubles and some are dorms, so if full you're looking at 50+ people! This explains why I had to wait 15 mins to use the loo.

Includes free breakfast. First day there were loads of bagels, next day only 2 varieties to choose from, by the end of the week there was only bread. It looks like they only get the bagels delivered at the weekend.

Once moved, our room was great. Hot shower, comfy bed and quiet room.

    Excellent location.

The wi-fi was a bit up and down, but just about everyone there had a laptop so I guess it could have been traffic.

We got up after a **** nights sleep due to all the outside noise here at the hostel. Between the bloody sirens and the noisy derelicts roaming the streets, it's a wonder anyone can sleep in their central city accommodation. That being said, I suspect our hostel hasn't invested huge dollars in double or triple glazing. Today's plan was for Dave and …

Having had a great sleep (assisted) despite the sirens, yelling, screaming and general noise from outside, I awoke around 7.00am ready to go. Dave, my room mate, was still sparko so I worked on my blog until the roofies wore off, and he woke up :) We had the Alcatraz boat tour booked in for late this afternoon so decided to do some exploring of the …

9 sleeps until I see my girls :)

But before that I need to survive 6 nights in San Francisco, a couple of nights on a road-trip to Los Angeles and a night actually in Los Angeles.

I had a nice cruisey morning as my flight to San Francisco wasn't due to depart until 2.00pm. As a result, I didn't drag my fat **** out of the …

My journey to San Francisco started out perfectly. Everything packed, I hadn't forgotten anything, I got to the airport on time, took off from Manchester, landed in Frankfurt, no problem. Then it all started to go pear shaped.

Catching a flight from Europe into the US is not difficult, but there are additional security checks, questions, …

I've been told I was lucky with the weather during my stay in San Francisco. Apart from my first day being cloudy, which was conducive to an afternoon relaxing in the cinema, the other two were perfect blue skies and sunshine. Having briefly visited San Francisco 3 years ago, and being met with the same weather, I have the impression that San …
