Living and working in Sydney

Ok, firstly an apology. It's been 2 months since I last updated my diary and people are starting to get worried - Yes, I am alive and well (despite the best efforts of my arch nemesis: Tristanthony Mohummed Horatio Hunch-Grumble Mao-Mao Goooooalllazzio!! Jones the 3rd twice removed once replaced). I have been living in Sydney to earn some cold hard cash to get going again. This doesn't really count as travelling but more of getting stuck in a rut, trying to earn some cash (while ******* most ...

Finally... a city! Sydnaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Driving down the coast to Sydney past Coffs Harbour and Newcastle the weather got progressively worse and worse - more rain than I've seen altogether in the last 2 months! This made for a great view of the Opera House whilst driving over the Harbour Bridge, reminiscent of the view of the Mersey and Widnes driving over the Runcorn Bridge. Lets just say, I'm sure Sydney has had better days. Anyway, we checked into our hostel in Woolloomooloo and headed out to a bar on Oxford St to meet the guys...

Silver lining

Plan B: Well last Friday sucked but it's time to move on! That's exactly what I did. Monday I hopped on a bus back to Sydney. It was another 12 hour long bus ride! At first I was psyched because there was a really cute guy sitting across from me so I thought i'd have some eye candy, well that lasted all of 10 minutes until I looked over to see him picking his nose. This wasn't the normal scratch scratch either, I swear he almost lost his finger up there! I arrived in Sydney this morning at 6 ...

Finally on my way!

So the last 4 days in Sydney have been great! I've met alot of great people and that's why i opted to stay an extra night. The one crazy thing that happened was that my room had a break in! Yesterday morning around 5 2 guys broke into our room and were going through everyone's stuff! Luckily one of my roommates woke up (Erin-Scotland) and chased them out before they were able to take anything. The cops were called and Irish Darren and I waited around for 2 hours until they came to give descri...

Last day in Australia

Well I never thought this day would actually come, today is my last day in beautiful Australia. Right now I'm feeling kinda sappy (Sappy=Sad + Happy) It's a weird feeling to be happy and sad at the same time. I'm not really sure what I should do on this day! So far I've been wandering aimlessly around the city enjoying the sun and my surroundings and buying some last minute souvenirs. Am I ready to come home? Well I am and I'm not. I am because I of course miss you all! I'm not because I abso...

So Sad to Say Goodbye

Bright and early we arrived in Sydney airport (920am baby!) and took a cab to Gareth's house..bless him for letting us stay there! When we got to his place, we were reunited with all of the luggage we had left with him..oh horror we have SO MUCH ****! We realized that maybe we don't need 500 million kilos of clothing, so we picked through our stuff and shipped to Catès home in Hong Kong a 20 kilo box of clothing..we actually spent the whole day running errands..doing our taxes (yay me, I'm ge...

... seaters, in their lounge. Practically everyone at the terminal at 3:00am there was sleeping on the sofa’s with blankets or sleeping bags. So Felicia and I grabbed back to back 2 seater sofa’s and crashed till 8:00am.

We caught our flight to Sydney on time, and arrived just a couple of minutes past 1pm. We caught a shuttle bus that had no passengers in it, to take us directly to our hotel, the Ibis King St Wharf. Cost only $15AUD ...

Bridge Climbin' and Posh Walkin'

... in Rose Bay hoking through the trash. Hard times for him too - he'll need to go without his pickings of caviar for a while til it all blows over. Poor fella. Basically these people are stinking rich. The houses are large and imposing and surrounding by gardens and Porsches and how alarms don't go off at my mere presence I'll never know. It is temporary home to Nicole Kidman (Darling Point). Of course there is a reason the rich are here - the spectacular ...

... equipment has dug down, deep into the ground, leaving giant deposits of gravel on the surface. so there i am, at the first sight of these mines, looking out for tiny hobbit doors, leading down into the mines and the miners' homes, but unfortunately there were none to be found at these particular mines. there would be none until we reached the turning off to our campsite, where there suddenly appeared to be loads of these little doors in the ground! now i know that these people ...

More Good Times

... is a bartender there, so he's someone to chat with when I'm in there. He also happens to work at my school doing research, so I've seen him around quite a bit. One other notable thing I did this week was I met with my old company, Jones Lang LaSalle on Thursday. The head of my old group in Chicago, the Capital Markets Group, put me in touch with the head of the group here in Australia and so I went down to their office in ...
