This is a fantastic little hostel with very friendly staff and a fantastic atmosphere. There is bucket loads of space for relaxing and a cheap but excellent dinner option. The room was clean and the bathroom top notch. The beach is easy to get to by bus or taxi and the staff gave us all sorts of recommendations as to where to go and eat both in Playa del Carmen and in the surrounding area.

Casa del Shiva is a nice place to chill whilst in Playa del Carmen. The entire place is kept very clean, and the manager makes a fantastic breakfast each day. Internet access is also good. The combination of the beach and the pool at the house makes for a relaxing place to stay. Whilst it is not a quick walk to the main strip, it is good to get away for the tourist strip and the local transport "collectivos" are very easy and cheap to use.

... incredible pockets of unique beauty truly captivated me. It honestly felt like we'd entered another world. Once we returned from our bike ride the four of us were starving, so we found a great little organic and gluten free cafe to grab some lunch. After waiting the most ridiculous amount of time for our food we inhaled it down and then we dispersed to spend a couple of hours doing our own thing. Stuie went exploring and Stephie, Jess and I hit some shops ...

We caught the ferry from Isla Mujeres yesterday to Puerto Juarez, then a taxi to Cancun town and then a bus to Playa Del Carmen. There are two different buses to take, the first class ADO bus which costs about M$60 and the colectivos (mini buses) which are about half the price. We ended up taking the colectivos, which was comfortable enough, but we were all packed into the back seats! If I was going to go again I would get on first with a seat up the front! We ...

I am ending my Latin America Odyssey at the beach in Playa del Carmen. It's the rainy season but still well over 30deg. Playa del Carmen is a big tourist resort with a lively strip and no end of bars and restaurants with tourist trap prices to match. The beach is long and not too crowded and so far ...

... on the ship, relaxing even further (as if that were possible).

About 3:00pm, we decided to go up to the room, change and watch the last minute passengers run to make the ship before it sailed. Today, there was only one person late and it seemed to be a fellow who had been in some sort of accident and showed up with his hands all bandaged up. The crew was very courteous and held the ship for him as it was a medical emergency and his ...

... underlying joking and relaxed Mexican attitude that has always been there and hopefully continues do be so. Putting a serious message across in a warming, joking tone. No taco implies the comic element - we're serious about the ticket, but ha, you won't get your taco without it, so hold onto that little piece of paper amigo.

Fits well with me - it was this same relaxed tone we certainly began this trip on!
