stranda kaller

Next day, more of the same

... Actually the plan was to take a taxi and tour the island a little bit and then go to La Rumba’s for lunch. But when we got there it was closed. Since breakfast hadn’t been that great we decided to take the water taxi back over to the Parrot’s.
There are at least 3 hostels in town and we have seen a few backpackers walking around. We went out for drinks to Mondo Toitu last night which is one ...

... then I saw him...the first dolphin in my life. It was so beautiful (ok, I just seen his back, as he was jumping on the water, but I was so happy...of course I shouted, as a good tourist I am ji ji). Soon other boats came and were running behind each dolphin we saw, the porrs. So we left, and, as we were going to the paradisiacal Island (cayos Zapatillas) we saw again dolphins, this time three or four, a whole family : ) I even saw one swimming quite deep under ...

... I'm so very glad I did, it was unbelieveable! We got to go through 2 sets of double locks ( of the 3) and go through the Continental Divide. We got an endless supply of nonalcoholic beverages as well as breakfast and lunch. I even got to touch the side of the canal (it was slimey)! It was also neat to see Annie and Ryan at the viewpoint for one of the locks. They decided to do the museum and viewpoint instead. It's neat to see their pictures of us going through ...

... quickly and swerve over to the next lane to avoid people. Once we got to the border, we had to exit the bus and get our pass port stamped and then walk across this bridge and river while the vehicles drove the same bridge. The bridge was steel and rusting and had holes through the flooring. Once we got to the other side, there was a window for Americans and they made us provide proof of a ticket out of ...

Runing to the rain

... i think my new new plan is to spend the weekend in bocas then go back up to costa rica for a few days on the coast there, as im a lil worried about getting traped on the island due to bad weather... And then still around the 18th into san jose waiting fo my flight. I don't think i can justify spending 2 days on the bus for 3 days in the capital city just to see the canal i've had so many bus rides at this point im DONE, and there not nice comfy buses like in Argentina.

... him how far away their nursing home was. He replied, about 2 minutes. By foot? I asked. Pause. We look down. Nikolas has no legs. Cut off at the thigh, he is always in his wheelchair. We both laughed. There is Dimitrio, the youngest resident, a kind and quiet Chinese man who can't use his hands very well and has difficulty feeding himself. Yet, lately he has turned up with these wonderful beaded bracelets and I've watched him carefully manoeuvring his stiff hands to ...

So here we are, in "Paradise"

... paradise would be completely overcome by never-ending rain, never-ceasing grey and never-drying clothes. Having survived the night on the over-air-conditioned death bus, we arrived at Almirante, a small town that we would catch a boat from to Bocas del Toro. A taxi ute was waiting for us, half parked under the bus shelter, half parked in heavy, pounding down from the skies, rain. We dumped our backpacks in the ute's tray and I regretted not forking out for that ...

The hard life...

... tons of fish and dolphins! (We actually have holes in the floor of our bungalow to watch them at night!) We really feel like were at home here - the taxi drivers and shop owners all hug us when they see us! This was a great place to end our trip and sadly were back to San Jose tomorrow and home on Saturday. But I cant wait to tell everyone about our trip and our experiences, and I cant wait to wash my clothes! ;)
