arrived exhausted from ibiza so had a quiet dinner and early to bed. The next day headed to the Rambla; the famous street in barcelona and were greeted with a river of people. The fresh food markets were amazing, so fresh colourful and smelt heavenly. Had the best pineapple of my life there for 1 euro; plus heaps of rasberries and blackberries; also very cheap. Took a tour of Gaudis architecture; which u can see in my photos. The way he brought nature into the built environment is stunning. W...
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands jojomo23rd April- Barcelona Once we arrived in barcelona we got the aerobus to a city square in the city, from there we walked down La Rambla to the hostel - about 11pm. It was a bit dodgy walking along the dark streets in a city that we had been told there was a lot of street crime and muggings etc. However there were thousands of people on the street because it was the "Day of Roses" and there had been a soccer game between Barcelona FC and Manchester United and there were supporters and a lot of...
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands k_jI wanted to go to Barcelona more than anything. I know that sounds very elementary, but I would not have been able to explain my predetermined affinity for the city with any reasonable words. Barcelona had always appealed to me with its excentric archetecture and its fame as a port city. I knew the location was deemed unlike any other, and that was enough to entice me into a trip. Tika, Miguel, Dan, Kiki, Joto, and I decided to book a hostel and stay in the city for a little over a week. (Ti...
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands lakaitgreg Marty left to return to Australia today. He won´t be there for 2 days though! I think he is going via every major airport between here and Adelaide. I moved myself into a dorm in a hostel that is quiet central. Felt a bit lonely without him around all day. I have to remember how I keep myself entertained when travelling alone.
I went for a long walk around looking for a bookshop. Eventually found one with a tiny English book section and got the one thing I could find that seemed mildl...
Let me tell you that it is one long drive from the Algarve, Portugal to Barcelona, Spain. Mind you we did leave Portugal around noon, so we ended up sleeping for 3 or 4 hours in the car at a truck stop just outside of Barcelona. Got into Barcelona around noon and just managed to get a room at the Gothic Point Hostel, where we met up with Angelique! I am not big on architecture, but Gaudi has done some great work with some of the buildings in Barcelona. Traveling around Spain, we have seen a l...
Barcelona, Spain monkeytoesWe woke up early to do a self guided sightseeing tour of Madrid before taking the train to has a huge manacured garden that overlooks the Rio Manazares, the usually 8 euros was just 3 for students. This palace while nice to look at is another look at Kings and Queens throughout Europe dotting there kingdoms with elaborate Chateau's and Castillo's while there people are suffering. But we didnt have time to gawk at the castle we had a quick day of sightseeing. We headed down Carrer Mayor which ...
Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands nmatt118Barcelona offeres a different feeling than Madrid with a younger vibe and a bit different culture, we began our day in Barcelona by heading to La Boqueria, Barcelona's main city market, and the market that is voted year after uear as Europe's best. You can find anything from fruit to bread to meats and even a little bit of the unexpected like sheeps head, cows brain, eye balls, and stomach to name a few. The market is frequent by Barceloneans to do their daily shopping and tourists to see the ...
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands nmatt118After a short flight from Dublin we were in Barcelona, we had to get the bus from the airport to the city, and it was at about 10pm. When we got dropped off at the main centre of town there were people everywhere, there had been some festival on, and also Barcelona FC were playing Manchester United in Barcelona so there were a lot of drunks about, which made walking to our hostel down narrow alleyways and bit dodgy. But we got there in the end and went straight to bed. We only had 1 full day ...
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands ruccobearBarcelona is beautiful. If I could speak the language, I could definitely live here. I preferred it to Paris. Jo and I went on a tour of some architecture by Gaudi, which was quite cool. I liked the mosaics and the way his architecture resembles nature and symbolises stories about dragons and princesses. I wish we had cool architecture in Sydney (the Opera house is pretty good, but there isn't much else). Nothing original like this. The last Gaudi attraction was excellent - it was behind Barc...

... who was killed by a tram in 1926. This was his main project. However his completed work is all over the city and very impressive. Next we headed to Parc Guell, Guadi´s landscape gardening with an amazing view of the city. We followed with an even more impressive view of the city, from what must be the highest point in the city - Tibidabo Park/Hill which has a tram to climb the mountain, a large church and an amusement park that is only open on weekends. We ...
