Well it's very very cold around 10 degrees in the middle of the day.
This is our first youth hostel and i tell you what we're both a bit
shocked...it's very nice with a big big breakfast.
Although 'youth' would not be the operative word due to the fact
we've shared a room with a 50 yr old and another few 40 yr olds and
some youngen's.
We've been informed by a nice american charlie that this is one of
the best he's stayed in which is hard that we are staying in it ...
Hello everybody! I know its taken me forever to update about Ireland, but it has been finals week and I have had 3 papers to write and exams to study for, on top of meetings and final performances for all of my friends to attend. It has been insanely busy at this castle....moving on to Ireland!!! Kara and I flew from London Stansted Airport to Cork Airport on Tuesday night. We got into Cork around 9 and hailed a cab (that drove on the opposite side of the street!!!) to our B&B in Kill...
Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland danajmooneyIf this was going to be the last morning Adrian and I would be together, then the least I should've expected was that I was going to receive a creative and, more than likely, unpleasant wakeup call. I've had soccer balls, balled-up socks, thongs (as in flip-flops), sneakers, all thrown at me. There's been loud music, obnoxious alarms and gun-shot *****. And this morning I was greeted with Adrian sitting down pressing all his weight down on my legs. We'd been out way too late and had to wake u...
Dublin, Ireland danblankJust a quick note to say that I've arrived in Dublin safely. At the moment, I'm trying to kill time. The plane landed at 8.30a and I can't check in until 2.00p, but as soon as I can, I'm totally napping. I'm wiped right now. A couple quick observations. Wow, the moment you enter a huge, busy new environment, your filters have to kick in like crazy so you don't explode. Also, no one waits for the light to change when they cross the street. If they can sneak in, they do so. Amanda, security as ...
Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland justenI've just come back to the hostel after appx. 5 hours of wandering. After an excellent hostel-provided breakfast (from what I've been told, it'll all be downhill from here), I walked through Dublin, visiting Trinity College and St. Stephen's Green. I'm still adjusting to the whole 'not being busy' thing. A number of times today I've had to remind myself to slow down, there's no rush. I really do have all the time I want. This will certainly be a recurring theme. Went out to the George last ni...
Dublin, Ireland justenDay 3 of Dublin and I'm beat. I've gone out the past 2 nights and definitely have not had enough sleep at all so far. We had a bunch of new arrivals in our dorm yesterday. Earlier, it was mainly myself, Bryan, and Shawn (both Americans) who were in the room. Then, yesterday, Jana (from Germany & Ukraine), Monica, and Monica's friend whose name I can't remember (even more Americans), and two other guys (still more Americans) were int the dorm, too. Though, I have to say while most everyone...
Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland justenOne of the things that was said to me about backpacking in hostels is that you're never alone unless you want to be, and it's so true. I've spent much of the time since my last entry with some new friends I've met in the hostel. Last night, I took Jana, Bryan, and Sean out to the gay clubs. First we checked out the Dragon and that didn't have enough dancing for our tastes. We shortly headed over to the George, though, and had an absolute blast. I think it was Bryan and Sean's first time at a ...
Dublin, Ireland justenAs the title says, this is my last night in Dublin. I didn't do much today. Ended up buying two books, one of which I already finished reading. That probably wasn't the best idea, as they were meant to last me the whole trip, but I've been waiting for my iPod to charge and it's been taking forever! By the way, Amanda, the bookstore had a copy of that 'big' coffee-table book I told you about and I looked through some of it. It wasn't too bad, so I may end up buying it once I get back home. Hav...
Dublin, Ireland justenWe left our little farm laneway & headed to Stranrear - where you catch the ferry over to Ireland. We found the local library and used their free internet to book our ferry, it was a P&O cruiseship - very stylish but it only took an hour to get to Ireland so we didn't get to kick back on the couches for long. We drove down to Belfast & had a look at all of the political murals on the walls about the IRA, hunger strikes etc....I must research northern ireland history when I get bac...

Within an hour of arriving in Ireland, I had a beer in my hand. Not only was this some sort of personal record, I could also rationalize it as getting acclimated to the culture. It was also exactly as I planned it. The rest of my time in Ireland, it seemed, wouldn't be. I was set to spend a little under a week in Ireland before flying over to Glasgow. As I envisioned it, I would spend a few nights in Dublin with CJ, my three neighbors from Ios and the other random ...
Dublin, Ireland danblank... past few days (little sleep and much alcohol is probably not helping the situation). Once someone on the bus gets sick, you can be pretty sure it's going to make the rounds. On my next Contiki trip in Australia I'm going to come prepared, loaded to the gills with vitamin C pills. Tomorrow I'm back to London for a few days (including England's world cup opener Saturday afternoon), and then some much needed rest in Montre
