    Generator Berlin

Big clean rooms with ensuites (although very small), reading lights, personal power points and usb points, and lockers. Good common areas including a bar, right next to the main station (although can be a sketchy area). No kitchen and breakfast is expensive (I didn't have it) but otherwise very good.

    Stay Away !!

    from

This place is very ugly! Big building. Blue disco lights on every floor. Television around every corner. And little children screaming and playing Music out of there ghetto blasters. i ma form germany and I am ashamed to have such an Horrible place in my country. If your a backpacker like me, there are many other great hostels in berlin.

Sorry, but this is not one of them.

    Disappointing...

    from

I had been looking forward to travelling to Berlin for many months - the journey from Belfast took about 9 hours in total, and wasn't a pleasant one. The reception staff at the Generator were pleasant, however the bar staff, in particular a blonde girl, was the rudest person I've ever had the misfortune to encounter. Her behaviour towards me and my friend was quite reprehensible. I wouldn't advise fellow travellers to stay at the generator if they are looking to make friends.

    Very disappointed!

    from

Stayed at the Generator with 3 girlfriends of mine in November 2003.

The place is a real disappointment! Sure, they have cheap beer and cheap beds. But this about describes the atmosphere. CHEAP! Unfriendly staff, expensive internet (RIP OFF), expensive laundry, poor quality food in the restraunt (if you can call it that), and it is in the middle of no where. This place is not really for backpackers.

    Great Experience

    from

I have just read the comment about the Generator Berlin. This experience is completely the opposite experience from my one. The reception was very helpful and gave me local map for free which otherwise would have cost me 1 Euro. When I arrived at the bar I found that there was happy hour with a small beer costing only 1 Euro. I the bar where many backpackers like me and 2 advised me to go on the Insider walking tour. Yes the Generator Hostel is very big but has a great atmosphere and I really enjoyed my stay. The beds in the hostel are the best so far on my trip. Cheers

Very far from the center and unhelpful staff

    from

Very disapointing with the service that my family recieved and we found it extremely far from the city center. The staff were quite dry and unhelpful. It is a quite large industrial looking building with very small rooms. We were quite disappointed.

    Day 101 - 05/06/05
    Dresden to Berlin
An easy trip to Berlin on the motorways. We haven't had to pay any tolls yet, and luckily too as it turns out this strip had so much road works going on that you could barely maintain a decent speed for a few kilometres and you had to slow down to 80 or 60 which is so slow after cruising at 130!

Felt pretty rough this morning. Partied with the ozzies last night. We bumped into each other in the cafe this morning and all agreed that the beer here is not very kind the next day. We sat in the hostel cafe for hours drinking coffee and water and laughing about the previous nights adventures. Turbo wedgies, broken and missing items, prostitutes …

Wow, I have great timing! Today is a holiday here in Berlin. It's the celebration of the reunification of the east and west. There's a huge festival going on by the Brandenburg Gate.

Started out the day by visiting Checkpoint Charlie. This was the checkpoint leaving the west to enter the east. Great little museum here. Just down the …
