Egirdir, Lake Town Turkey
Sunday the 25th was mostly another bus day. Getting tired of reading about those yet? Luckily they're much more enjoyable to experience, as it's nice to have the chance to kick back for a few hours and read, listen to tunes, or watch the scenery roll by. In the case of the Selcuk-Fethiye bus, the Mediterranean scenery was gorgeous. Fredierick and I got to Fethiye in the late afternoon and thought it would be fun to stretch our legs and walk from the bus station to the center of town. Wrong. I...
Fethiye/Kas/Olympos, Turkey easyreadA stunningly beautiful day. I have decided to move on to Köycegiz (pronounced kur-jeez) however. The idea of a town on a freshwater lake in a nature reserve appeals. The journey was not without incident. The bus driver forgot I was sitting there and so I ended up with a long walk back to the turn off. I have booked in at the Fulya Pansiyon. Again, like my last stop, I seem to be the only guest and had choice of rooms. The one I chose was number 13, I'm not superstitious, and it's balcony has ...
Köycegiz, Turkey globalbedu... kept any inhabitants fit; the climb up to the entrance had us all braking out in a sweat, but well worth it. The views, sunshine and shelter they must have experienced would have been good for the soul and the spirit. The drive to this area gave us the most spectacular view of the snow covered Mt Erciyes which is the only mountain range in Turkey that has snow thick enough on which to ski.
Slept well that night and were all refreshed to tackle the ...
... but a nice gas station attendent invited us into his comfy couches and gave us hot chai. then we found a couple truckers to take us with them. they were going to iraq or something like that. they used ****** computor translator to talk with us and the poor translation told us the fat one said "Together Oozing pain is required" and we were really weirded out until we got online translator at a servis alani and his smarter friend explained the tranlation ...
Cappadocia, Tukey, Turkey sg2oo3... now out of work. Several of them have moved to the States with the American Dream of pooping on cars (mine being one of them)
Perhaps the most unusual of experiences was walking through the Underground City. We were only able to walk down 5 of the 12 levels. While this is not the largest of the underground cities, this city housed more than 5,000 people for up to months at a time in order to protect these people from ...
... in 3 months. It never ends well. Well, actually, it just never ends. But he just didn't get that. I just kept having to say, "Look man, we don't want to talk about that, they don't watch football, we don't watch rugby, we're never going to agree, they'll never get it, they think we'll never get it." It was a pretty tense situation on my end.
If anyone ever wants to really have the discussion I will keep it simple and explain why football is about a thousand ...
... high and so were the prices, so we bought a few shot glasses. Moving on we stop at a carpet making school where we watch young women making wall hangings out of silk threads. Costing over a thousand dollars each, these carpets take months to make, we don't even buy a little prayer rug. Back at the hotel we take a short break before heading to the underground city at Kaymakli. This city is at least 1,500 years old and may ...
Cappadocia, Turkey juanitobosque... are quite famous, I know them as well. WHAT?! How funny and wonderful is that? Anyway: Troy was fantastic and brought back those Archaeology undergrad years.... We ate a lovely lunch of meatballs, cabbage, and semolina/honey dessert in the sun in the country for an hour while we waited for our Dolmus and off we went again. On the way back we stopped at the Museum of Archaeology- its where they house many of the findings (non architectual) from Troy ...

antalya, Saskatchewan, Turkey raftingantalya... Kiwi friends would say)! Oddly enough we had four americans in the balloon. That is more Americans that we have come across since we left the US. After the balloon ride we landed and shared a glass of bubbly together. It's apparently a tradition that started with the first balloon ride. The pilot was French and carried some Champagne with him and when he landed, he popped the bottle and shared it with the farmers whose farm he had landed in.
