clean enough, bathrooms were a floor up or down, making it an inconvenience in the morning and night, big rooms very spacious

The "Backpackers bar" downstairs charged $10 for a pint, hardly backpacker prices. We paid in advance for our 5 nights, then when they lowered the prices of the rooms they refused to refund us the difference, as if they didn't know the prices would change when we paid! Out of the 5 nights, we had 2 nights' sleep, we were on floor 7, yet the music from the bar on floor 1 sounded like it was in the next room, and it went on until 5am! Half of the facilities like cookers and washing machines didn't work, in fact we had to spend about $20 just to dry our washing because the dryers were crap! Overall - absolutely rubbish, stay somewhere else for your own sake.

I flew into Melbourne early in the morning. After dropping the luggage off and having breakfast, I was off to start my adventure. Unfortunately, it was Christmas so everything was closed except for... the zoo! Which was an entertaining activity. After visiting the Federation Square and a stroll along the Yarra River, I enjoyed the famous St Kilda …

We were thrilled to have tickets to see a tennis grand slam. Before we had seen any of the city we were heading straight over to Rod Laver Arena to get ready to watch a fabulous line up. Three amazing players were due to play, Sharapova, Serena and finally Federer the great. We were in for a treat! The day started a little drizzly so the roof on …

We made it! After 30+ hours of traveling and 5 hours stuck in the Melbourne airport, a couple of weary travelers finally made our way to the Flinders Backpackers Hostel in downtown Melbourne in style. The Nissan Micra we rented (see attached picture) will hopefully serve us well as we head out to the Great Ocean Road. We want to give a big thanks …

I arrived on my flight into Melbourne at a very reasonable time, 1pm. Straight to the hostel, Flinders Station Backpackers. Generally a nice hostel but after 5 days I still hadn't had a hot shower all the way through! Starting to grate on me now to be honest :-) I also have a very strange roomie who is actually quite disgusting, not the most …

Once I was back in Melbourne, I started to crack down with the Sightseeing I wanted to do!

I started with the Titanic Exhibition and I liked it a lot. It was very well done, including a very realistic corridor as if you were on the ship and also an Iceberg, to feel what the temperature of the water would have beenm when the Ship went down …
