Madness in Athens

I will update this later, but the following is to make all of this easier to remember: Our first night in Athens we were sitting out at a cafe on the street in between to Syntagma Square when we hear 'Oh my gawd!'. It was Aaron's friend Chris and his girlfriend Karen (both of whom are wonderfully Jersey). They were on their way to meet up with their friends Scott and Rob in Monastiraki Square, right near our hostel. We finished our gyros and Ouzo and joined them. We were both somewhat tired f...

We arrived in Athens, and after checking into our (centrally located) ferret box at the Fivos Hotel, went for a wander up the street to see the sights. We didn´t have to go very far before perchancing on the local meat and fish markets. James coped with the latter, but began to turn a little green as he eyed various animal carcasses, rabbits, pigs, goats and sheep, all complete with tails, heads, eyes etc. All they were lacking was skin. And guts. There was a definite meaty smell about the pl...

Notes about Greeks

I just posted some videos in Athens, Mt climb, and Aegina. Check them out!

Here are some final notes that I have observed about the Greeks and their way of life. I am merely an observer so don't take any offence to it.

-Greece seems to be cheaper than all the other countries that I have been too thus far. Which is good because Europe is expensive.

-Greeks like to yell when talking. I've seen it all the time, just two people having a conversation about whatever and t...

... colors. The village is set into the bottom of a hill and right at the coast edge and provides the most dramatic of views from the ferry as it makes its way in and out of the port. Although there is a nice quiet beach in Adamas itself the best of the islands beaches are on the south coast, Yarakas and Provatas. Provatas will go down in the memory as one of the nicest beaches I've ever seen. Although it's small and difficult to get to the little cove is glorious. The beach is situated ...

Athens!

... There's really no other word for it. We did walk through the most expensive street in Athens, as far as living is concerned, and it is beautiful and, in contrast to the rest of the city, very clean. At the Acropolis, there was confusion with our student IDs; as it turned out, students under 19 and students in the European Union are free, and all other students are half price. So I used up my last Eurocents to scrape together the six ...

Meteora to Athens

... Man was it ever nice to see people I knew :D We walked around the Acropolis together, which I thought was a little disappointing. Half of it is covered with construction and stuff, so there was not a whole lot to see. But it was still pretty sweet to see the Parthenon (even with the metal things all over it) and some of the smaller temples were really nice. After that we saw the Theatre of Dionysus, and the Temple of Zeus. On our way to the hilton we came by the ...

... swimmer) I spent more time in thought. Eventually, I spread my towel on the stones, smoked meditatively and let my thoughts wander and did some heavy thinking about the purpose of this portion of my trip. I spent about two hours there and returned to the house, a bit calmer. For dinner, we crossed the wider bay to Alekos' cousin (of course) Hronis, and his wife Irenee, to have dinner with them. After introductions and talk (mostly in Greek). We decided to return to the same ...

... that the view was spectacular.

This might sound strange, but I love looking out the windows as we approach for landing. I know that the landing is statistically the most dangerous part of the flight. But, my thinking is that the flight is almost at an end, and I want to see the final destination. As a result, I’ve seen some fantastic vistas. However, none of them compared to the approach into Athens. The sun was setting over the Aegean ...
