One of the best hostels I have encountered. The staff are so helpful and friendly and totally into nature (which is what The Everglades is all about).

We rented a canoe and arranged a shuttle from these guys for our Wilderness Waterway trip. We spent the night before we left and the night we returned at the hostel. It was a great experience. Everyone was super friendly, relaxed, and respectful. We had a room to ourselves the first night. They were totally booked (night before new years) when we got back but they made room for us to pitch our tent in the yard. There was a great live alt-folk music show that night. Really cool vibe here, we would definitely come back.

We drove for a few hours down the i95 back to Miami, then West along the i836 and then onto the Florida Turnpike. The Turnpike uses a cashless toll system and we ended up buying a Sunpass (like a Tamar Tag) for $15.

When we arrived at the hostel ($25 per person per night) we knew we were in for a fun couple of days. The evening walk into …

I hadn't used up all my birthday shopping money so we drove back to the mall so I could do a little more shopping. I bought some awesome silky thin green pants at H&M. I was looking for some nice summer shirts or dresses or shorts but it was impossible to find. It was all sweatpants and sweaters and long sleeved shirts. Don’t these people …

Another gorgeous morning and we pack and set off south. We're on the Interstate 95 and it's busy all the way down. We pass from swampland to some extensive farmland, which I found surprising. Down past 'Palm Beach', 'Fort Lauderdale' and the I95 is a 5 lane weaving racetrack. All this stretch and including Miami, is another urban sprawl extendin...

Back in America and before we could catch our breath for five minutes in the air-conditioned airport we were headed south in search of what the Indians call the "River of Grass", we were on our way to the Everglades! Our trip to Florida City about an hour south of Miami gave us a fantastic indication of why we should abandon buses in America and...
