... foundations, though the ubiquitous Sphinx figures almost make up for it. More interesting to me are the totally undeveloped Sphinx figures lying in rows leading up to the complexes outside the gates. I wonder how many more there are- or were. It boggles the imagination, as does the architecture in general, especially the massive columns, hardly pyramidal in form or function. Were the great structures of Greece and Rome mere copies of this ...
Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt hardiek... Then onto the Vally of the Nobles and saw a couple of tombs, Ramose the most impressive. Lovely scenes of daily life and completely uncrowded which was a blessing. Finally Hatshepsut temple. This I would have been happy to avoid. Impressive facade carved out of the rock it looks more Nuremberg than Nefertiti but sadly it was over run by coachloads of tourists.

... sugar cane, corn (to feed the animals!). Just awesome. This is so relaxing. We tied up to a bank on the first night - all alone with not another boat in sight and had a wonderful 3 course dinner and the most beautiful whole fish which we totally enjoyed. We got off the boat in the afternoon also and went for a walk around the farmlands. Cruise ships passed fairly frequently and tended to break our peace and quiet (and they also had a lot of exhaust smoke). So glad we chose the Dahabiya.
... the tallest in Egypt at 30m high. It is stunning and in prime condition. After Hatshepsut's death, her
stepson Tuthmosis III eradicated all signs of her reign. The sacred lake according to Heradotus was where the priests of Amun bathed twice a day and nightly for ritual purity. The giant scarab is dedicated by Amenhotep III to Khepri a form of sun god. It truly is an amazing place.
After wandering for quite sometime, we decided to head back into town ...
... 3 course buffet meal for breakfast lunch and tea). We did some sightseeing in Aswan and a 1 hour felucca sail with Mohamed Ali - another funny guy who tried to tip us out of the boat a few times - I dont think Ahmed could swim because he was ******** his pants. We went back for some tea and beers by the pool - on the boat and Matt beat me at cards, and met up with Ahmed and his mate at 10pm - they took us to the local markets where we stood out like dogs balls ...
Luxor, Al Baḩr al Aḩmar, Egypt leahymatth... the day they saw me eating bread and cheese, the manager said something to the workers and before I knew it I had 2 nice curies and a salad for free, this coupled with the free breakfast and the free dinner make it the best hostel I have ever stayed at. The service is awsome, the room is nice, it is so cheap and everything is perfect. The Bob Marley hotel - Luxor.

I should have pulled a Vince Vaughn from Wedding Crashers when the gay brother paints him in the nude and gives him the painting as a gift. When they get thrown out of the house the brother demands it back but Vaughn goes, "No, you can't have that back, it was a gift" and walks off with the ridiculous painting that the gay brother famously describes as "Sexual and violent!" I should have used the term "Em shee" which ...
... huge columns and statues that are covered with carvings and hieroglyphs. Karnaks columns are the tallest in egypt. Karnak also has "the world's first excel sheet" and 2 obelisks - one is froma set of four - one in Egypt, one in London, one in Paris, and one in New York City. I've now seen three of the four. The other obelisk is one of a pair originally constructed by Hatshepsut, but one fell in an earthquake. That one is still standing because Thuthmosis III ...
Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt avalon_48... temple 100 feet higher and 80 feet back from its original location. Every piece was put back in place as the way it was found back in the 1800's, and then having a mountain façade built around the structures. Though pictures are not allowed, I was able to take a few within the two temples thanks to Baksheesh (tipping) of the guards, thus you will find those photos in the photo album. After our flight back to Aswan, we went to the high dam, which is the largest power ...
