EllenHaus Puerto Varas

Puerto Varas is a small little city close to Puerto Montt. All the books recommend it over the busy Puerto Montt. The town is situated on a lake across the Volcano Osorno. It would be absolutely beautiful, if we could see it among the low clouds. (Actually, we did get to see it for about 5 min and took the opportunity to take some pictures.) Having seen all there was to see in Villarrica and Pucon, I decided to head South again, so bought a ticket to Puerta Varas, a town that I had been told was worth a visit. After a four hour journey, the bus decided to drop me off on the side of highway 5 (a few kilometers out of town) because it was running behind schedule. Bé doncs avui vaig al Parque Vicente Perez Rosales, el més antic de Xile. Triguem gairebé un hora en arribar. Vaig amb una noia alemana i un noi israelià que s´apunten. En arribar preguntem als guardes quines opcions tenim per fer trekking. El parc es espectacular perque té el volcà Osorno, el llac de tots els Sants i un riu que forma uns ràpids. Bé poc a poc vaig deixar la regió dels llacs i m´endinso en la Patagònia. Puerto Varas, es un lloc al costat del Volcà Osorno. Tranquil pero a la vegada a l´hospedatge hi molta gent. De fet a l´arribar passejo una mica pels voltants del llac i faig unes fotos. Per cert, han avisat que Zapatero ha guanyat les eleccions i retirarà les tropes d`Iraq. He conegut molta gent i anem a prendre unes birretes, sempre està bé una mica de festeta. Demà aniré al Parc Perez Rosales.

This was a bit of a let down as we had visions of a Chilean version of Bariloche. But it wasnt. The town was nice enough, there was a really nice view of the lake towards Volcano Osorno. We were supposed to stay in this hostel but there was no room for us so they put us up in their workers house which wasn't very nice anyway for the same price but it was well expensive for what it was. so we decided to change hostels but that was a bit of a mistake: we went for cheap but we got a basic hostel...
