So quiet but watching our backs

A travel blog entry by spikidle

Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay and has an interesting old town but is less visited than Colonia del Scaremento further around the coast. We found a pleasant albeit a little dead (strange for the weekend) town with a fabulous old town.

Our stay:
The first day we spent most of the day getting here, not arriving until …

What to say about Montevideo? It is really, really, really quiet. If you want a picture without any people in it, that is not a problem. I only had about a day and a half in the capital of Uruguay, but that was more than enough to see all of the sites. Walking around the city on the weekend, most things are closed, but you can see the old buildings …

We arrived in Montevideo, Uruguay on a Friday early afternoon. The plan was to spend the night here and then bus up to Punta del Diablo and find some camping space near the beach there as well as in Cabo Polonio. This was a good place to stay. The dorms are really small though. It is difficult to move around in them. Good breakfast.

We had a great experience here. The staff was very welcoming and we took advantage of their group dinner which was asado... or very tasty bbq. Facilities were very clean. Thanks!
