Fading notes of Bagpipes

A travel blog entry by gshea43

Our last day at Edinburgh was by far the best although yet again quite cold. However, it was at least sunny! The night before my travel companions had decided to go out to a pub literally fifty yards down the street. I unfortunately at that time had seen fit to develop a horrid cough and cold so I just sat in my bed and read. Pretty exciting …

So...I know this has been a long time coming. Two weekends have passed since I have actually been in Scotland and yet I still have not written about it. For all of you avid readers (note my sarcasm...I highly doubt anyone is a particularly avid reader of my blog), I am sorry to have disappointed you with my lack of communication. I will also …

Tatoo and Fringe Festival

Wow so lots has happened since our last post! All settled in now in our pad in Stafford (little town near Birmingham, will do a blog on how riveting it is sometime), we've visited a few places around too like B'ham and Manchester. Even went to London for the Olympics which was madness.

This trip to Scotland is our first with both money and …

Today I wandered around Old town, taking in the surroundings, browsing the souvenir shops, even though i can't buy anything cos i don't have room for any of it! At night I went to "The Stand" Comedy club. Was great. Sat with a Canadian Girl, don't think i even got her name. I'm getting slack. They were of course very funny... Scots usually are. …

A taste of Scotland.

Edinburgh is amazing. Unbelievably amazing. The city is divided into two main areas… Old town and New town. Old town centres around one street, the Royal Mile which stretches between two royal places: one, Holyrood Palace where the queen stays on her visits to Edinburgh, and at the top end, an old castle. Now the castle kind of looms over the …

Excellent location, it is near the Royal Mile. Friendly staff and they have a good deal with the restaurant next door. I stayed in the 'penthouse' which was a nice, big room and a comfortable bed.
The only thing I did not like where the showers. A lot of showers in a row with just a shower curtain for your privacy. But maybe I am a prude.

    Stay somewhere else

This place is filthy, also very expensive. Have travelled to a lot of Hostels around the world now and this was one of the worst experiences I have. Basically just a big money making machine (charge for everything!). Only thing going for it is location but there's so many places around time you are better off staying somewhere else.
