... you look at the steeple tower with its bombed out shape. We caught a bus home and arranged to catch up for dinner on the balcony but I think all the food and exercise caught up with us all as we all fell asleep and cancelled for the evening. To lighten the mood after ...

... which is all very touristy now but still has an interesting display of photos. This was the site where world war 3 very nearly began when the soviet and American tanks faced off for 11 hours. We walked through Gendermarkt square and onto Babel square where the infamous 1933 book burning a took place. We finished the tour off on museum island where our guide told us the story of how the Berlin Wall came down in a peaceful, and accidental, ...

... Friedrichstraße to Galeries Lafayette, which has interesting architecture - a modern temple of glass, whose interior is centred around a huge cone, like a contemporary tribute to the famous dome of the Boulevard Haussmann department store in Paris.

We had lunch whilst at Galeries Lafayette, then decided we would explore the eastern area of Unter den Linden - walking towards Alexander Platz.
