At 0425am the alarm clock went off, ashling and I worked as a well oiled machine and by 0500am we were showered and packed and ready to head to the airport. Our taxi driver arrived right on time, and lead us to beat up gray VW Vetta (180 yuan doesn't buy a plush ride apparently). Our under-caffeinated bodies sat in silence on the way to the airport and our temperatures rose as the taxi stormed down the motorway in no traffic, and we pulled into Terminal 2 at 0520am for our 0745am flight. "1 h...
Hong Kong, China ashlingA very meaningful and enjoyable, yet a little bit tiring trip to Hong Kong and Macau with friends. One of the best trip I've ever had. With a lot of memories to treasure and experience to learn. I just love it.
Hong Kong, China bluebell_08Did I fail to mention, faithful reader, that arriving in Hong Kong, D and I failed to reserve a room for all six nights of our stay, opting instead to pay for two nights in order to allow freedom to choose later on? This choice was based largely on reviews we had read on the internet of shady hostels, but proved to be foolish when we learned that everything was pretty much booked for the Lunar New Year holiday. So as we walked around the city, the thought that we may have to spend a night or ...

Goodbye Hong Kong, see you in a few weeks!
This post is now complete. First, from Leslie. Will probably add more later today, but I posted last night and lost it (what I posted), so will make incomplete post now and add to it later. Hi friends, We are in Hong Kong on top of Victoria Peak after sleeping 10 hours in utter exhaustion. the flight over turned out to be about 24-28 hours (we're finding it hard to calculate exactly) after the flight was delayed 3+ hours in Los Angeles and then we had to make a detour to Taipei for additional...
Hong Kong, China chaskempQuote from Leslie: "I wore part of the polish off my toes we walked so far. I'm not kidding." Saturday: breakfast at Mimi's, f**ry to Lamma Island wh**e we walked around for awhile. Talked with a little girl holding on to a v**y big dog (Lamma has lots of dogs). She told us that the dog :"made the children because he pooped on the playground and that is not allowed." Hmmm. Had some v**y good and fairly cheap dim sum - I have to tell you that the shrimpo h**e have a strong**/bett** flavor than...
Hong Kong, China chaskempFlew Luang Prabang (happy we to have gone to this great town) to Bangkok on Wednesday. My camera running out of power and can't find charger. A month ago someone we know was cheated out of several hundred baht by the official Bangkok taxi stand (or what appears to be official or at least the airport franchise) for a 220 baht taxi ride to Sukhumvit Road. They cheated him by telling him the standard fare was 400 baht + airport fee + toll road, so we were on alert when we got to "Taxi Meter" at ...
Hong Kong, China chaskempOK. Right from the start I'm going to say this is going to be, on average, a grumpy travelpod. We didn't like Chengdu. In my opinion, it's a dirty, little, overpriced, cultureless provincial capital with a chip on it's shoulder the size of, say, Sichuan. Right. Glad I got that off my chest. We had high hopes for Chengdu - it was miles from Beijing and sounded like a nice, laid back, backpacker hangout with funky Sichuan food and culture. And it had Pandas to boot. We'd had good times since Ti...
Chengdu, China chris-marianneSat 19th: Change of plan as woke up to rain + wind so caught the MTR and went to Lantau Island to a big shopping mall for some window shopping and look around the local super market. Sun 20th: Went to Disney Land Hong Kong today and had an awesome day and lots of fun. Seems smaller than America ride wise, but watched the parade, Lion King show- which was fab, Hi School Musical show and went on Space mountain - took pics of ourselves while on there too, Buz Lighter Astro Blast, Orbitron and Ju...
Hong Kong, China christina_samWe flew over with a very efficient Lufthansa (meals were the best I've ever had on a plane) transitting through Munich. It's the first time I've ever seen a sex shop in a airport departure lounge! Neither of us could get any sleep due to sheer excitement so we arrived in Hong Kong in the evening very tired. Finding our hostel was a bit confusing but we got there in the end and my huge bags were surprisingly comfortable. The room was as expected, basic and teeny tiny! After dropping off our ba...
