A hostel which has everything you NEED, but not everything you WANT; it felt very impersonal and un-homely.

      Decent place

Looks like a dive from the outside but not bad on the inside. Not enough bathrooms for the amount of people staying there tho. Huge kitchen with the need of more storage areas for food. Huge tv room with lots of couches for hanging out and chilling to a movie. Turned out better than imagined.

Pour à peine plus cher que la chambre partagée au Base on avait une chambre individuelle avec salle de bain, pile en face de la gare et à 10 min de marche du centre "vivant"
Vraiment très contente d'y avoir passé 4 jours

      Ok place for one night

Downtown backpackers was a decent place to stay for the night. I would have stayed at the YHA, but my ferry arrived after midnight from Picton and the hostel is located across the street from the blue bridge ferry terminal. The evening guy at the hostel was really nice as opposed to the girl at the reception the next morning. She was rude and super unfriendly...maybe she was hungover or woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Not a very good representation. The place was clean and i would recommend it for a one nighter.

Got up about 10pm as people had been up making noise leaving. Switched the beds around when they’d go so we had an entire bunk.
Went down and made our breakfast of beans on toast, was good! We’d decided we wanted to go to The Weta Cave, which was the place that did all the animation for LOTR and The Hobbit, they also made all the …

Got up about 9am, sorted our stuff out then checked out. put out stuff in the storage room then went and sat in the common area as the bus wasn’t until 2:10pm.

Decided to go to McDonalds again so that we would get to eat on the plane! It was ok, the plane wasn’t as big as I though and it had an army of flying ants going …

Got up about 8:30am and got ready. Went and had some potato fillet things for breakfasst then set off for Thermal Village about 9:40am, after finding where it was!

Took us about 40 minutes to get there, was about 3km, wasn't a bad walk. Was sunny but a bit cold...
Got to Thermal Village and got our tickets then went and waited for the …

Got up about 8:30am and finished our packing, the left the room about 9:10am, out bus was at 10am.
Didn’t take us long to get to the bus stop, so ended up watching the tour bus take people to Hobbiton. The bus was late, ended up picking us up about 10:20am! The bus was also a non-naked bus branded one, and it was awful. It was obviously …

      Back to the south......

Well after just over 3 months in the north island, or should I say 3 months in mount Maunganui. I have returned back to the south in order to take a job as an evening/weekend manager at the grapevine hostel in Blenheim. The journey down here wasn't so great, threw up on the bus from mount Maunganui to rotorua. Then had a 6hour wait in rotorua which …
