We got on the bus in Rubavu and once again sat at the back with our bags. A young woman sat beside Dawna and placed a gunny sack under the bus seat. I heard a "cluck, cluck" coming from it occasionally. People were now sitting in the centre jump seats to make room for everybody. One lady who got on was wearing a gorgeous dress of traditional kanga …

So after a hectic couple of weeks packing up the house, sorting travelling items, seeing friends/family and rushing around the country we were quite relieved to finally be on the plane and not to have to think for once.

A 6:50 flight from Heathrow meant 4 hours sleep :-( Checked in fine and they did not ask about our onwards flight which …

... only confined to children in the East. They work hard to integrate many children from all over the country.

The Street Children's charity works to rescue boys and girls from the streets. I stumbled upon the girls center after Shooting Touch donated a couple of balls, rims and nets to the boys center in Kabarondo. One of the leaders referred me to the girls center. Turns out the center was right next door to my house. Who would have thought it was ...

Making the most of extra time in Kigali

The following photographs, taken today, are posted with the deepest respect in mind for the victims and their families. One phrase that I saw displayed in several locations today is very touching: "Iyo Umenya Nawe Ukimenya Ntuba Waranyishe," ...

Great (and only) backpackers in Kigali

Were very satisfied with our accom in KIgali. The position in the city is perfect, and the hostel is clean and friendly. While it is rather expensive to stay here ($20 camping!!) it is an expensive city so the price seems right. Close to all amenities and knowledgeable about things to do in Kigali and Rwanda too.
