... when we returned to the ship we learned that we do not have enough water in the Danube to continue on our Bestla ship...we have to switch ships on Sunday and get on the Eistla, which is our original ship that couldn't make it to Budapest to pick us up...oh, well...what can you do...we just have to pack and the other ship is the same, unfortunately we have all new staff.

We actually never made it to Passau, Germany. The ship stopped in Aschach, Austria for us to get on the bus for our trip to Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. The ship then continued on to Passau where we were taken after our tour. The water levels in the Danube are so low that the Captain was concerned that we might get stuck in Passau, so he went through the lock and docked further upstream. Overnight he said that the ship would have 20 cms clearance from the bottom of ...

Passau's magnificent baroque St Stephen's Cathedral located on the highest point in old town. It was nearly destroyed by fire in 1662 when fire swept through the town. It was rebuilt and since 1928 has been home to the largest cathedral organ in the world. It has 17,974 organ pipes, 233 stops and four carillons. All five parts of the organ can be played at once or separately from the main keyboard.

Apparently the Bishop Princes, were very egocentric people, and they loved building extravagant buildings and putting their personal touches on them. We're going to do a total boat swap today with the Viking Var.

Next port on the original itinerary is Passau, Germany. However, the Danube in Passau is too shallow (by a few inches) for our boat to sail past so we are docked in Linz (Austrian side of impasse). The Viking Var is cruising in the opposite direction from ours and cannot get beyond the impasse from their location on the German side of the impasse. So ...
