Paris - Hambourg - Copenhague

Copenhagen

Found a nice little cafe along the canal that we had huge chicken sandwiches at - (chicken being the only thing on the menu when we enquired about food!) and I enjoyed a Carlsberg since we were going to miss the free Carslberg Brewery Tour as it closed at 4 and was shut Monday. After filling ourselves we headed downtown admiring the wide flat streets and the number of cyclists that enjoy the flat landscape of Copenhagen. They have their own cycle lanes (as compared to cars and pedestrians) a...

Life is Grand in Denmark!

Well it looks like I made it to Copenhagen. The motorcycle ride and ferry were great. I took the shortest route and I stayed off the main highway. The riding here is much better then in Germany. Definitely less stressful. I decided to try the first hostel on my list even though the internet said they had no beds available. As I walk in there's a sign on the door saying the same things. I decide to ask. Lucky me! They do have a bed. Though it is expensive. Over 50 euros. But that's about as ch...

Home again

Back home now. Yesterday wasn't very interesting: just travel. Walk: Copenhagen Youth Hostel (nice but soulless with strange automatic lights and scary swipe-card lifts) to Copenhagen Central Station in the morning rush hour. Plenty of cyclists (as indeed there were on Thursday), with proper cycling sections to the roads. Train: Copenhagen Central Station to Copenhagen Airport. About 10 minutes. Very easy. Bit of a wait in the airport as my flight was midday and check-out from YHA was 9am but...

Good basketball, great food at Vaerlose

The food just did not stop coming from out of the kitchen. We were in the eating hall just off the gym floor in Vaerlose, a community about 20 miles north of Copenhagen. The games had been played, and the parents of the girls team took it upon themselves to lay out this incredible feast for the players of all four teams, and the traveling adults. There were chicken and vegetable hot dishes, roasted pork, salads, roasted potatoes, fruit pie, you name it. We sat in long tables, the nationalitie...

Castles

It is a busy day. I am at the train station by 8:00. I buy the 72 hour Copenhagen Pass which covers transportation and most museums. I later find out that many of the best museums are free (some always others for a day) but I still make great use of it. I take a 20 minute train into Copenhagen where I leave my backpack in a locker.

As I head to Hamlet's Castle, I read that the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is a train stop on my way. I arrive right before it opens and stay for a coupl...

... 40 minutes and we were allowed to walk around the ferry while we were in transit, Karla and I ate sandwiches and explored the boats duty free shop, when we arrived at the port the train rolled right off the boat and kept on going. You see something new every day, Today it was a train on the ferry. As a final punch in the gut we arrived 40 min. late into Copenhagen. We checked in and Karla instantly went to sleep to catch up from the train ride. I took this opportunity to explore ...

København, August 17, 2007 - Friday

... raining. As far as I was concerned, it made no sense going on. I had already packed and yet had an afternoon flight to London ahead of me, so I couldn't afford to get wet without time and opportunity to get dry afterwards. So I just hid from the rain and when it let up somewhat, I went back to Adolph Steens Allé to pick up my things. I took again the fast 250S line and started towards the Kastrup airport. It was my farewell to København. For this time.

... s conservative government's tough stance on immigration Norrebro is a suprisingly multi-cultural neighborhood comprising many middle-eastern folk and Somalians. Speaking of cool places to live, my mentor, Maj, lives in a 400 year old student housing building with an awesome courtyard and a massive hall for parties. Also she has a madnut view of Rundetarn, or the Round Tower; a huge, old astrological observatory built by some important guy (not me ...
